Alex Stanaway
Alexander William Stanaway (14 July 1886 – 27 June 1972), also known as Ariki Haira, was a New Zealand rugby league player who represented New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand. His brother, Jack Stanaway, was also a professional rugby league footballer and international referee. Playing career Stanaway toured Australia in 1908 with the first 1908 New Zealand Māori rugby league tour of Australia, New Zealand Māori rugby league team. He again toured Australia in 1909 New Zealand Māori rugby league tour of Australia, 1909 with a New Zealand Māori side. Also in 1909, Stanaway played for the new City Rovers club in the Auckland Rugby League competition and represented Auckland rugby league team, Auckland. City Newton Dragons
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive. The New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF) was the title of the military forces sent from New Zealand to fight alongside other British Empire and Dominion troops during World War I (1914–1918) and World War II (1939–1945). Ultimately, the NZEF of World War I became known as the ''First New Zealand Expeditionary Force''. The NZEF of World War II was known as the ''Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force'' (2NZEF).
