Alex Pauk
Alexander Peter Pauk (born October 4, 1945) is a Canadian conductor and composer, most noted as the founder of the Esprit Orchestra. Awards and nominations At the Juno Awards of 1996, both Alexina Louie and Harry Freedman received Juno nominations for Classical Composition of the Year, for works they had composed for the Esprit Orchestra album ''Music for Heaven and Earth'', and Harry Somers was nominated at the Juno Awards of 2001 for "The Third Piano Concerto", from the Esprit Orchestra album ''Celebration''. ''Inside Hana's Suitcase'' is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Larry Weinstein and released in 2009. Adapted in part from Karen Levine's book ''Hana's Suitcase'', the film centres on the story of Hana Brady, a young Czechoslovak Jewish girl who died in the Holocaust, including the reminiscences of George Brady, her sole surviving brother who emigrated to Canada following the war. The film premiered in February 2009 at the Victoria Film Festival. ''Perfect Pie'' is a play written by Judith Thompson, and first staged at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre in 2000, with Judith Thompson also directing. The assistant director for the original production was Caroline Azar. The original cast starred Nancy Palk (Patsy), Tara Rosling (Young Patsy), Sonja Smits (Francesca), and Liisa Repo-Martell (Marie - Francesca's original name). Music for the production was composed and performed by Bill Thompson. The story concerns the childhoods of Patsy and Marie and the impact it had on their later lives. Commissioned by the Toronto International Film Festival to mark the event's 25th anniversary in 2000, the series consisted of ten short films by Canadian directors which were inspired in some way by the festival,Marc Glassman, "Preludes". The Thomas Henry Pentland Molson Prize for the Arts is awarded by the Canada Council, Canada Council for the Arts. Two prizes are awarded annually to distinguished individuals.
