Alex Pangman
Alex Pangman (born September 4, 1976) is a Canadian jazz singer and is a specialist in songs from the Great American Songbook. In 2011 she signed with Justin Time Records for whom she recorded the album ''33''."Alex Pangman." Justin Time Records. With a JUNO awards nomination in 2016, videos, film, television, and radio appearances to her credit, she sings in a style made popular by jazz vocalists Connie Boswell and Kay Starr. She has collaborated and recorded with Bucky Pizzarelli, Ron Sexsmith, Dick Sudhalter, Don Kerr, Jeff Healey, Terra Hazelton, and members of the New Orleans Cottonmouth Kings. More recently she released an EP of material recorded directly onto 78rpm acetate discs, as well as a single of a previously un-discovered song by Connie Boswell. Pangman inherited Cystic Fibrosis. Connie Boswell
Constance Foore "Connie" Boswell (December 3, 1907 – October 11, 1976) was an American vocalist born in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City but raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. With sisters Martha Boswell, Martha and Helvetia Boswell, Helvetia "Vet", she performed in the 1920s and 1930s as the trio The Boswell Sisters. They started as instrumentalists but became a highly influential singing group via their recordings and film and television appearances. Connie herself is widely considered one of the greatest female jazz vocalists and was a major influence on Ella Fitzgerald, who said, "My mother brought home one of her records, and I fell in love with it... Katherine Laverne Starks (July 21, 1922 – November 3, 2016), known professionally as Kay Starr, was an American singer who enjoyed considerable success in the late 1940s and 1950s. She was of Iroquois and Irish heritage. Starr performed multiple genres, such as pop, jazz, and country, but her roots were in jazz. John Paul "Bucky" Pizzarelli (January 9, 1926 – April 1, 2020) was an American jazz guitarist. He was the father of jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli and double bassist Martin Pizzarelli. He worked for NBC as a staffman for Dick Cavett (1971) and ABC with Bobby Rosengarden in (1952). Musicians he collaborated with include Benny Goodman, George Barnes, Les Paul, Stéphane Grappelli, and Antônio Carlos Jobim. Ron Sexsmith
Ronald Eldon Sexsmith (born January 8, 1964) is a Canadian singer-songwriter from St. Catharines, Ontario. He was the songwriter of the year at the 2005 Juno Awards. He began releasing recordings of his own material in 1985 at age 21, and has since recorded seventeen albums. He was the subject of a 2010 documentary called '' Love Shines''. Early life Sexsmith grew up in St. Catharines and started his own band when he was 14 years old. Career Sexsmith was seventeen when he started playing at a bar, the Lion's Tavern, in his hometown. Terra Hazelton is a Canadian jazz musician, broadcaster and actress. Raised in Calgary, Hazelton began studying theatre with the Loose Moose Theatre Company as a teenager.
