Platform Game
A platform game (often simplified as platformer and sometimes called a jump 'n' run game) is a sub-genre of action video games in which the core objective is to move the player character between points in an environment. Platform games are characterized by levels that consist of uneven terrain and suspended platforms of varying height that require jumping and climbing to traverse. Other acrobatic maneuvers may factor into the gameplay, such as swinging from vines or grappling hooks, jumping off walls, air dashing, gliding through the air, being shot from cannons, or bouncing from springboards or trampolines. Games where jumping is automated completely, such as 3D games in ''The Legend of Zelda'' series, fall outside of the genre. The genre started with the 1980 arcade video game, '' Space Panic'', which includes ladders, but not jumping. '' Donkey Kong'', released in 1981, established a template for what were initially called "climbing games." ''Donkey Kong'' inspired many clon ...

Safari Hunt
''Marksman Shooting & Trap Shooting'' is a light gun shooter compilation game released for Sega Master System in North America in 1986. A third game, ''Safari Hunt'', was included in the European version, retitled ''Marksman Shooting / Trap Shooting / Safari Hunt''. ''Safari Hunt'' was also bundled with ''Hang-On'' as part of another multicart and also as a built-in game in Version 2.4 of the Master System BIOS. In each game, players must use the Light Phaser to shoot targets and beat the qualification score before moving on to the next round. Failure to qualify results in an instant game over. Gameplay Players select from one of three separate games. In each of the three games, players must use the Light Phaser to shoot targets and score a set number of points. The targets vary in each game. ''Marksman Shooting'' has players shoot red dots on targets at a shooting range. The second game, ''Trap Shooting'' simulates the sport of the same name as players shoot at flying targets. ...

Sega Vintage Collection
is a series of video game ports, remakes, and compilations published by Sega. It consists of Sega arcade games and home console games, typically those for the Sega Genesis and Master System. The series was launched on the Sega Saturn in 1996. Entries were published for the PlayStation 2 as ''Sega Ages 2500'', a reference to its bargain ¥2500 price point. The series later came to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as ''Sega Ages Online'', and finally to the Nintendo Switch as simply ''Sega Ages''. The name ''Sega Ages'' is a palindrome, with "Ages" being "Sega" backwards — this was previously used by Sega in European marketing strategies from the late 1980s to early 1990s. The Sega Saturn and PlayStation 2 releases usually feature a singular game alongside extras such as remakes or developer info, and sold at a low price point. Most of these releases were exclusive to Japan. Three games in the Sega Saturn series - ''Space Harrier'', ''Out Run'' and ''After Burner II'' - were selecte ...

Sonic The Hedgehog (character)
is a title character and the main protagonist of the video game series of the same name published by Sega, and appears in numerous spin-off comics, animations, and other media. He is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who can run at supersonic speeds and curl into a ball, primarily to attack enemies. In most games, Sonic must race through levels, collecting power-up rings and avoiding obstacles and enemies. Programmer Yuji Naka and artist Naoto Ohshima are generally credited with creating Sonic. Most of the games are developed by Sonic Team. The original ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' (1991) was released to provide Sega with a mascot to rival Nintendo's flagship character Mario. Sonic was redesigned by Yuji Uekawa for ''Sonic Adventure'' (1998), with a more mature look designed to appeal to older players. Sonic is one of the world's best-known video game characters and a gaming icon. His series had sold more than 80 million copies by 2011. Origins and history While Sega was seeki ...

Anmitsu Hime
Anmitsu (, rarely ) is a Japanese dessert that dates to the Meiji era. It is made of small cubes of agar jelly, a white translucent jelly made from red algae. The agar is dissolved with water (or fruit juice such as apple juice) to make the jelly. It is served in a bowl with sweet azuki bean paste or ''Red bean paste, anko'' (the ''an'' part of ''anmitsu''), boiled peas, often ''gyūhi'' and a variety of fruits such as peach slices, ''mikan'', pieces of pineapples, and Cherry, cherries. The anmitsu usually comes with a small pot of sweet black syrup, or ''mitsu'' (the ''mitsu'' part of ''anmitsu'') which one pours onto the jelly before eating. Anmitsu is usually eaten with a spoon and fork. A few variations on this dessert do exist. Mitsumame is anmitsu without bean paste, the ''mame'' meaning the peas that are served with the syrup and agar jelly instead. Cream anmitsu is anmitsu with ice cream on top. dango, Shiratama dango are also commonly used as toppings. See also *Kakigō ...

Onigiri
, also known as , , or rice ball, is a Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or cylindrical shapes and often wrapped in ''nori''. Traditionally, an onigiri is filled with pickled ume (''umeboshi''), salted salmon, katsuobushi, kombu, tarako, mentaiko, takanazuke (pickled ''takana'', Japanese giant red mustard greens) or any other salty or sour ingredient as a natural preservative. Most Japanese convenience stores stock their onigiri with various fillings and flavors. There are even specialized shops which only sell onigiri to take out. Due to the popularity of this trend in Japan, onigiri has become a popular staple in Japanese restaurants worldwide. Despite common misconceptions, onigiri is not a form of sushi and should not be confused with the type of sushi called ''nigirizushi'' or simply ''nigiri''. Onigiri is made with plain rice (sometimes lightly salted), while sushi is made of rice with vinegar, sugar and salt. Onigiri makes rice portable and easy ...

Hang-On
is an arcade racing game released by Sega in 1985 and later ported to the Master System. In the game, the player controls a motorcycle against time and other computer-controlled bikes. It was one of the first arcade games to use 16-bit graphics and uses the Super Scaler arcade system board, created with design input from Yu Suzuki, as technology to simulate 3D effects. The deluxe cabinet version also introduced a motion-controlled arcade cabinet, where the player's body movement on a large motorbike-shaped cabinet corresponds with the player character's movements on screen. Yu Suzuki began development of ''Hang-On'' after deciding to design a motorcycle racing game as a way to use a torsion bar in an arcade game. With market research suggesting GP 500 racing was popular, Suzuki took inspiration from world champion Freddie Spencer and his style of racing. The game's soundtrack was written by Hiroshi Kawaguchi, who used rock music that was uncommon in arcade games at the t ...

Alex Kidd In Shinobi World
''Alex Kidd in Shinobi World'' is a side-scrolling action game produced by Sega that was originally released for the Master System in 1990. Developed in Japan, it was released for the overseas market (North America, Europe and Brazil). The game stars Alex Kidd in a parody version of Sega's ninja-themed action game ''Shinobi'', where Alex Kidd fights against caricatures of many of the enemies from ''Shinobi''. It was re-released for the Wii Virtual Console in 2009. Gameplay Despite being part of the ''Alex Kidd'' series, the game mechanics of ''Shinobi World'' are different from ''Alex Kidd in Miracle World'' and are much closer to the Master System version of ''Shinobi''. Alex Kidd's basic attack is a sword slice, which can be used not only to destroy enemies but also to open treasure chests. Inside such chests, the player can obtain items such as more health, throwing darts, a powered-up sword, extra lives, and a magic ball that will temporarily turn Alex Kidd into an invincibl ...

Snail Maze
''Snail Maze'' is a 1986 video game by Sega for the Master System. Instead of being released on a cartridge, it was built into the system's BIOS and could be played by starting the system without a game cartridge inserted and holding Up and buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously. Some later console models included a minimal BIOS because of memory constraints, and ''Snail Maze'' had to be removed. These systems instead included a built-in ''Alex Kidd in Miracle World'' or ''Sonic the Hedgehog''. ''Snail Maze'' was never released in cartridge or card format. Gameplay A very simple game, ''Snail Maze'' involves navigating a small orange snail with a yellow shell through a blue maze. A goal area is clearly marked, which players must attempt to reach within a time limit. Despite its relative simplicity compared to other games of its era, Snail Maze could be quite challenging. Subsequent levels reduce the time available, giving a progressively lower margin for error. Legacy In 2004 an unoffici ...
