Alex Hernández (baseball)
Alexander Vargas Hernández (born May 28, 1977) is a retired Major League Baseball infielder and outfielder. He played during two seasons at the Major League level for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was drafted by the Pirates in the 4th round of the 1995 amateur draft. Hernández played his first professional season with their Rookie league Gulf Coast Pirates in , and his last season with independent Atlantic League's Lancaster Barnstormers in . He played his last affiliated season in for the Cincinnati Reds' Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts and Triple-A Louisville Bats. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases.
