Alex George (botanist)
Alexander Segger George (born 4 April 1939) is a Western Australian botanist. He is the authority on the plant genera ''Banksia'' and ''Dryandra''. The "bizarre" Restionaceae genus '' Alexgeorgea'' was named in his honour in 1976. Early life Alex Segger George was born in Western Australia on 4 April 1939. Career George joined the Western Australian Herbarium as a laboratory assistant at the age of twenty in 1959. He worked under Charles Gardner for a year before the latter's retirement, and partly credits him with rekindling an interest in banksias. In 1963 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia, and the following year added a botany major. Continuing at the Western Australian Herbarium as a botanist, in 1968 he was seconded as Australian Botanical Liaison Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens in London. Alexander George is an American philosopher working as a professor of philosophy at Amherst College. Career Born and raised in Manhattan, George attended Lycée Français de New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979 from Columbia College of Columbia University, Columbia College and his Master of Arts and PhD from Harvard University in 1981 and 1986, respectively. Alex George (born March 1949) is a Scottish former professional motorcycle road racer. He competed in the Grand Prix world championships in 1970 and then from 1973 to 1979. George was a street circuit specialist and was a three-time winner at the Isle of Man TT. His best year in world championship competition came in 1975 when he finished in seventh place in the 500 cc Grand Prix world championship. Born in Glasgow, George finished tenth in the 500 class in 1973. During the 1975 500cc world championship, he scored podium results with a third place behind Phil Read and Giacomo Agostini at the 500cc Czechoslovak Grand Prix and a third place behind Dieter Braun and Pentti Korhonen at the 350 cc Dutch TT. His third place in the 1977 500 cc Austrian Grand Prix came about as a result of some riders boycotting the race, following an accident in the earlier 350 cc race. Alex Thomas Michael George (born September 27, 1938) is a retired American professional baseball player. He appeared in five Major League Baseball games at the age of 16 as a shortstop and pinch hitter for the Kansas City Athletics during the season. George batted left-handed, threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed . He was signed by the Athletics during their first season in Kansas City out of Rockhurst, a local Jesuit high school. All of his Major League appearances took place before his 17th birthday. Alexander David Lloyd George is a Welsh physician and television personality who serves as the UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador within the Department for Education.
