Alex Ferson
Alexander "Colonel" Ferson (July 14, 1866 – December 5, 1957) was a 5'9", 165 pound right-handed baseball pitcher who played from 1889 to 1890 and in 1892 for the Washington Nationals, Buffalo Bisons and Baltimore Orioles. Ferson began his big league career on May 4, 1889. That year, he went 17-17 with a 3.90 ERA in 36 games (34 starts, 28 complete games). Despite finishing 10th in the league in hits allowed (319), ninth in the league in losses and eighth in the league in hit batsmen, he was still the best pitcher on the team overall. Although the team finished last in the league with a 41-83 record (.331 winning percentage), Ferson managed a winning percentage of exactly .500. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. Parke Swartzel
Parke B. Swartzel (November 21, 1865 – January 3, 1940) was a professional baseball pitcher who played one season in Major League Baseball for the American Association's Kansas City Cowboys in . In addition to his one major league season, he played six seasons of professional baseball at the minor league level. Career Born on November 21, 1865, as Parke B. Swartzel in Knightstown, Indiana, US, he began his first of professional baseball season in 1886, at the age of 20, with the Leavenworth Soldiers of the Western League. He began the 1887 season with the Soldiers, however he is also credited with playing for the Lincoln Tree Planters, another Western League team. For the 1888 season, Swartzel played for the Kansas City Blues of the Western Association, a class-A level league.
