Aleksejs Auziņš
Aleksejs Karlis Auziņš (7 August 1910 in Jelgava, Russian Empire – 25 April 1997 in Riga, Latvia) was a Latvian football midfielder, manager and also an ice hockey player. Football playing career Auziņš was born in the provincial city of Jelgava, but he made his first serious steps in football in Riga where he joined the Latvia Higher League side Amatieris in 1927. He played with Amatieris until 1930, but in 1931 he joined Riga Vanderers, a much stronger club than Amatieris whose days of glory were already in the past. In the early 1930s Auziņš became a candidate for Latvia national football team, but he did not play for it until 1935. He played with Vanderers until 1939 and the biggest achievements were two second-place finishes in the Latvian league – in 1932 and 1934. Aleksejs Šarando (born 1 January 1964) is a former football midfielder from Latvia, currently the assistant manager of Skonto FC-2 in the Latvian First League. He obtained a total number of 24 caps for the Latvia national team between 1993 and 1999, scoring two goals. His last club was FK Rīga, where he retired in 2001. Šarando also played as a professional in Russia, Finland and Sweden. Aleksejs Saramotins (born 8 April 1982) is a Latvian professional road cyclist, who last rode for UCI Continental team . He has won the Latvian National Road Race Championships on seven occasions and has represented his country at the Summer Olympic Games and the UCI Road World Championships. Career Amateur career Before signing a professional contract Saramotins raced in cross-country mountain biking races. Aleksejs Vidavskis (19 September 1943 – 1 July 2020) was a Latvian politician who served as a member of the Supreme Council of Latvia, as a mayor of Daugavpils, and as a deputy in the 8th and 9th Saeima (Latvian Parliament). Biography Early life Vidavskis was born in Daugavpils, Latvia on September 19, 1943 when the city was under Nazi control as a part of the Reichskommissariat Ostland. He graduated from the Riga Polytechnic Institute in 1979 while working various positions at the Daugavpils Chemical Fiber Factory from 1966 to 1987. Political activity He served as a member of the Supreme Council of Latvia from its establishment in 1990 until he and 14 other members who had voted against the Declaration of Independence were removed for "acting contrary to the Constitution."
