Aleksandre Mirtskhulava
Aleksandre Mirtskhulava or Aleksandr Iordanovich Mirtskhulava ( ka, ალექსანდრე იორდანეს ძე მირცხულავა; russian: Александр Иорданович Мирцхулава) (May 12, 1911 – June 9, 2009) was a Georgian politician who was the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Georgian SSR from 14 April to 20 September 1953. Mirtskhulava was born in the village of Khorga in the Khobi District of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti. In 1930, he graduated from the Pedagogical Technical School of Zugdidi. By 1931 he was a raikom secretary; he became First Secretary of the Communist Union of Mtskheta in 1933 and of Khoni in 1935. From 1941 to 1943 he was the second secretary of the Communist Party of Abkhazia, and from 1943 to 1947 Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Abkhazia, in effect head of the government of Abkhazia. Joseph Stalin
Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin (born Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili; – 5 March 1953) was a Georgian revolutionary and Soviet political leader who led the Soviet Union from 1924 until his death in 1953. He held power as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1922–1952) and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union (1941–1953). Initially governing the country as part of a collective leadership, he consolidated power to become a dictator by the 1930s. Ideologically adhering to the Leninist interpretation of Marxism, he formalised these ideas as Marxism–Leninism, while his own policies are called Stalinism. Mingrelians
The Mingrelians ( xmf, მარგალეფი, margalefi; ka, მეგრელები, tr) are an indigenous Kartvelian-speaking ethnic subgroup of Georgians that mostly live in the Mingrelia ( xmf, სამარგალო, samargalo; ka, სამეგრელო, tr) region of Georgia. They also live in considerable numbers in Abkhazia and Tbilisi. In the pre-1930 Soviet census, the Mingrelians were afforded their own ethnic group category, alongside many other ethnic subgroups of Georgians. The Mingrelians speak the Mingrelian language, and are typically bilingual also in Georgian. Both these languages belong to the Kartvelian language family. Vasil Mzhavanadze
Vasil Pavlovich Mzhavanadze ( ka, ვასილ მჟავანაძე; – 31 August 1988) was a Georgian Soviet politician who served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Georgian SSR from September 1953 to September 28, 1972 and a member of the CPSU's Politburo from June 29, 1957 to December 18, 1972. Dismissed after a corruption scandal, he was replaced by Eduard Shevardnadze. Career Vasili Mzhavanadze was born in Kutaisi. He left school at the age of 12 and was a factory worker for ten years. In 1924, he joined the Red Army. There is no record of his holding an office of any kind in his native Georgia during the next 29 years. Akaki Mgeladze
Akaki Mgeladze ( ka, აკაკი მგელაძე; russian: Ака́кий Ива́нович Мгела́дзе; 1910–1980) was a Soviet politician. He served as First Secretary of the Georgian Communist Party from 1952 to 1953, and before that was First Secretary of the Communist Party of Abkhazia from 1943 until 1951, as well as previously leading both the Georgian and Abkhazian Komsomol and Gruzneft. Mingrelian Affair
The Mingrelian affair, or Mingrelian case (russian: Мингрельское дело, ''mingrel’skoe delo''; ka, მეგრელთა საქმე, ''megrelt’a sak’me''), was a series of criminal cases fabricated in 1951 and 1952 in order to accuse several members of the Georgian SSR Communist Party of Mingrelian extraction of secession and collaboration with the Western powers. Events Initiated on the personal orders of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, the affair apparently aimed at eliminating the influence of Lavrentiy Beria, of whom Stalin was growing increasingly suspicious. The fabricated accusations of forming the "Mingrelian nationalist ring", separatism, collaboration with the "Western imperialists", and the Georgian émigré centre in Paris, were followed by a purge, which delivered a hard blow to the Georgian party organization, and specifically targeted its Mingrelian (a subethnic group of the Georgians) members, mostly Beria's protégés.
