Aleksandar Sarievski
Aleksandar Sarievski ( mk, Александар Сариевски ; June 20, 1922 – December 19, 2002) was a Macedonian singer-songwriter whose career spanned almost six decades. He was one of the most recognizable figures in Macedonian music. Sarievski was a co-founder of the folklore musical ensemble Tanec and frequently traveled with the group as an ambassador of Macedonian music and culture. His renditions of local folk songs are particularly well known and, in many cases, the first known recorded versions. These include " Jovano, Jovanke", " More Sokol Pie", and " Uči me majko, karaj me", among others. He also composed the popular folk-style song " Zajdi Zajdi". Aleksandar Sarievski died in 2002 aged 80. Galičnik
Galičnik ( mk, Галичник) is a mountain village in North Macedonia and along with Lazaropole is one of the two biggest and oldest Mijak villages in the region. Galičnik has well-preserved traditional architecture, including an amphitheater in the village square, and is famous for its surrounding countryside and nature reserve. People from Galičnik and northwestern North Macedonia appreciate the local yellow cheese kaškaval (''Kashkaval'') that is produced in the region as well as the local salt brine white cheese "belo sirenje" which is a homemade speciality for this region. Uči me majko, karaj me ( bg, Учи ме майко, карай ме, mk, Учи ме мајко, карај ме, ( en, Teach me mother, scold me) is a traditional folk song from the region of Macedonia. It was published for the first time by the Bulgarian National Revival activists Miladinov Brothers in their collection '' Bulgarian Folk Songs'' in 1861. This song is remembered in its folk rendition mostly by the ethnic Macedonian folk singer Aleksandar Sarievski, while the band Leb i Sol have arranged a modern rock version. Branko Crvenkovski
Branko Crvenkovski ( mk, Бранко Црвенковски, pronounced ; born 12 October 1962) is a Macedonian politician who served as Prime Minister of Macedonia from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2002 to 2004, and as President of Macedonia from 2004 to 2009. He was also leader of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia. Background and earlier career Crvenkovski was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, then part of Yugoslavia. In 1986 he obtained a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Automation from the School of Electrical Engineering at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. He was elected member of the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia at the first multi-party elections in Yugoslavia in 1990 after serving for several years as head of department at the Semos company in Skopje. Boris Trajkovski
Boris Trajkovski ( GCMG) ( mk, Борис Трајковски, pronounced ; 25 June 1956 – 26 February 2004) was a Macedonian politician who served as the second President of Macedonia from 1999 until his death in 2004 in a plane crash. Trajkovski was born into a Methodist family. His father, Kiro, who died in September 2008, was a landworker who had served in the Bulgarian Army and had been imprisoned for two years for feeding prisoners of war. Trajkovski graduated in 1980 with a degree in law from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. He subsequently specialized in commercial and employment law and made several visits to the United States, where he studied theology to become a Methodist lay minister. After he finished his studies, the communist government confined him for a time to a remote village because of his religious activities. More Sokol Pie (English: A Falcon is Drinking) is a traditional folk song from the region of Macedonia, particularly popular in Bulgaria and North Macedonia. There are several versions of this song. Probably the earliest record of an early version of this song was in 1837, by Serbian author Petar Petrović Samopodlužanin.
