Alejandra Matus
Alejandra Matus Acuña is a Chilean journalist and writer. In 1999 she published ''El libro negro de la justicia chilena'' (lit. " The Black Book of Chilean Justice"). The available copies of the book were confiscated one day before the planned release and Matus was accused by Servando Jordán, minister of the Supreme Court of Chile, of the delict of "desacato" ("contempt") invoking the article 6-B of the Ley de Seguridad del Estado (State Security Law). This prompted Matus to apply for—and receive—political asylum in the United States. The case led to the "desacato" article to be removed from the law with the new Ley de Prensa (Press Law) that was signed on May 25 of 2001 which allowed Matus to return to Chile. Despite the new law the book continued to be banned until October 2001 when the Corte de Apelaciones (Appellate Court) removed the ban. Santiago International Book Fair
The Santiago International Book Fair (''Spanish: Feria Internacional del Libro de Santiago, FILSA'') is an annual book fair held in Santiago, Chile, during October–December. It is organised by the Chilean Chamber for Books (''Cámara Chilena del Libro''). History The Santiago Book Fair was created in 1981 as a national event, an initiative of then mayor of Santiago, Carlos Bombal. It was originally held in Parque Forestal, behind the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts; from 1989 it has been held in the Estación Mapocho, Estación Mapocho Cultural Center. In 1990 the event was expanded to become an international book fair and in 2011, for the first time, it featured a section dedicated to electronic books. LucÃa Hiriart
MarÃa LucÃa Hiriart RodrÃguez (10 December 1923 – 16 December 2021), also known as LucÃa Hiriart de Pinochet, was married to former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet. Early life and education Hiriart was born into a wealthy family in Antofagasta, on 10 December 1923 to Osvaldo Hiriart Corvalán, a lawyer, former Radical Party senator, and former Interior Minister of president Juan Antonio RÃos; and LucÃa RodrÃguez Auda de Hiriart, of Basque French descent.
