Alcest
Alcest is a French post-black metal band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, founded and led by Neige (Stéphane Paut). Since its creation, Alcest has released six studio albums and a number of EPs and split releases. Kodama (album)
''Kodama'' (Japanese for "tree spirit" or "echo") is the fifth studio album by French metal band Alcest. It was released on September 30, 2016 via Prophecy Productions. It is a concept album about "the confrontation of the natural world and the human world", inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's film ''Princess Mononoke.'' Musically the album is a return to the band's earlier blackgaze style, due to Neige's feeling that he "needed to go for something more punchy, darker, and more personal too." ''Kodama'' is also the first Alcest album to feature Indria Saray performing on bass, though he has played with the band live since 2010. Promotion and touring The band toured Europe with Japanese post-rock band Mono throughout late 2016 in support of ''Kodama'', which included nine UK dates. The first single from the album '''Oiseaux de proie''' was premiered on August 4, 2016 along with an interview with Neige. The band premiered the second song from the album, "Je suis d'ailleurs", on August ...

Shelter (Alcest Album)
''Shelter'' is the fourth studio album by French shoegaze band Alcest. It was released on 17 January 2014 via Prophecy Productions. The album's name is related to the album's overall concept of shelter, "a safe place to escape, this secret thing we all have when life is going too fast and you are full of anxiety." The album marks a significant stylistic shift for the band, fully embracing the band's shoegaze and dream pop influences while eliminating the previous metal influences, with ''Rolling Stone'' writing that the album has "more in common genetically with Sigur Rós than Satyricon." Musical style, recording and writing The album's style sees the band delving deeper into their shoegaze influences and "leaving metal behind" entirely. Rolling Stone compared the album to "If the Cocteau Twins discovered a long-lost triplet who had slugged it out in space-pop groups and post-rock bands", comparing the style to Slowdive, Mogwai, and Sigur Rós. According to AllMusic's Thom Jure ...

Les Voyages De L'Âme
''Les Voyages de l'âme'' ( en, "The Journeys of the Soul") is the third studio album by Alcest, released on January 6, 2012 by Prophecy Productions. "Autre temps" was also released in a different version as a single, and was made into a music video. The album has been described as a musical synthesis of the previous two albums, blending shoegaze, post-rock, and black metal influences. Musical style and writing ''The New York Times'' described the album's sound as "a kind of slow, pretty, gauzy metal, with highly managed guitar distortion, cathedral reverb and high, clear voices, except for when Neige sings in a barbed scream." AllMusic's Thom Jurek described the album as combining "black metal's buzz, gorgeous shoegaze melodies, ambient soundscapes, and post rock feedback", and as a synthesis of the styles of the previous two albums. He also notes that the aggressive elements are employed in a "celebratory manner", and that with the use of harsh, screamed vocals, "the melodic be ...

Écailles De Lune
''Écailles de lune'' ( en, "Moon Scales") is the second studio album by French blackgaze band Alcest, released on March 26, 2010 by Prophecy Productions. It is the first Alcest album featuring Winterhalter on drums. Although it continues in the direction started with the first album ''Souvenirs d'un autre monde'', ''Écailles de lune'' marks a darker, louder transition into shoegazing, while also coming back to the band's black metal origins as it features harsh vocals like those found on their second release '' Le Secret''. Alcest mastermind Neige said of the album's concept, "This story isn't really a metaphor of death, as it would seem to be. For me, it is about a man who decides to leave one world for another one, literally. Like a passage to another reality, another state of existence... This time I was especially inspired by the seaside, the energy and the exaltation you can feel when you sit in front of the sea at night. It appears terribly fascinating, full of secrets an ...

Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde
''Souvenirs d'un autre monde'' (; English: "Memories From Another World") is the first full-length album by French band Alcest, released in August 2007. The title refers to the meaning behind the music of Alcest, as its leader and songwriter, Neige, sees it as a journey through his memories of a distant world he has been in contact with. Although it is representative of future works, the album differs greatly from Alcest's first release '' Le Secret'', distancing itself further from Alcest's original sound, and going more into post-metal and shoegaze-like direction while keeping some of the black metal part of the sound. It is the last release in which Neige plays all instruments, as he was joined by drummer Winterhalter on subsequent releases. Reception The album received generally positive reviews. Brian Way of Allmusic lauded the emotional aspect of the album, stating it expressed "yearning, nostalgia, triumph and blissful peace, all without a single lyric in (discernible) E ...

Tristesse Hivernale
''Tristesse hivernale'' (English: "Wintry Sadness") is a demo and release debut of French band Alcest, released in 2001 on Drakkar Productions. It is their only release with guitarist Aegnor and bass guitarist Argoth, both from Peste Noire (in which Aegnor later changed his alias to Famine), as the band's creator, Neige, would continue Alcest as a one-man project after the release. It remains the band's only release as a trio. Unlike the following albums which would be influenced by shoegazing and post-metal, ''Tristesse hivernale'' is oriented towards traditional black metal with a raw sound and harsh vocals. It was later re-released by Northern Silence Productions in August 2007 as a split release with another French black metal band, Angmar, under the name ''Aux funérailles du monde... / Tristesse hivernale''. Track listing Personnel * Neige – lead and backing vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums * Aegnor – lead guitar * Argoth – bass Bass or Basses may refer to: Fi ...
