Albert W. Sanborn
Albert Whittemore Sanborn (January 17, 1853 – July 15, 1937) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate. Biography Sanborn was born on January 17, 1853, in Swanton, Vermont. He attended Muskingum College before moving to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and was admitted to the bar in 1876. He then moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in April 1876, where he studied for about two months. In June, he practiced law first as a member of the firm Jones & Sandborn along with D. Lloyd Jones, and afterwards as a member of the firm of Cate, Jones & Sandborn, adding George W. Cate, followed by Cate, Sanborn, Lamoreux & Park. In 1893, he moved to Ashland, Wisconsin. He died at his home in Ashland on July 15, 1937. Career Sanborn was a member of the Assembly in 1885. Previously, he was District Attorney of Portage County, Wisconsin. Swanton (town), Vermont
Swanton is a town in Franklin County, Vermont, United States. The population was 6,701 at the 2020 census. The town includes the village of Swanton. History The town of Swanton was chartered in 1763 as one of the New Hampshire Grants by Benning Wentworth, the governor of the Province of New Hampshire. It was named for Captain William Swanton, an officer in the British Army who had traveled through the area during the French and Indian War. There were French land grants in the area beginning in 1734, and small French settlements including a Catholic mission in what is now Swanton from as early as 1740, when settlers in Quebec used a water route from Quebec City and Montreal to reach the banks of the Missisquoi River near what are now known as Swanton Falls. None of the original grantees who received the charter from Governor Wentworth settled or resided in Swanton, opting instead to sell or trade their shares. The ''Oshkosh Northwestern'' is a daily newspaper based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The ''Northwestern'' was owned by the Schwalm and Heaney families until 1998, when it was sold to Ogden Newspapers; Ogden traded the paper to Thomson Newspapers two months later for four papers in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Ashland is a city in Ashland and Bayfield counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The city is a port on Lake Superior, near the head of Chequamegon Bay. The population was 7,908 at the 2020 census, all of whom resided in the Ashland County portion of the city. The unpopulated Bayfield County portion is in the city's southwest, bordered by the easternmost part of the Town of Eileen. Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Oshkosh is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, of which it is the county seat. The city had a population of 66,816 in 2020, making it the ninth-largest city in Wisconsin. It is also adjacent to the Town of Oshkosh. History Oshkosh was named for Menominee Chief Oshkosh, whose name meant "claw" (cf. Ojibwe ''oshkanzh'', "the claw"). Although the fur trade attracted the first European settlers to the area as early as 1818, it never became a major player in the fur trade.
