Albert Vielfaure
Albert Vielfaure (born April 6, 1923 – December 12, 2007) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1962 to 1969. Vielfaure was born and educated at La Broquerie (completing Grade 11), and worked as a farmer and bulk oil salesman. In 1951, he married Solange Desrosiers. Vielfaure served as a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He also was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1962 provincial election, defeating Progressive Conservative Rene Préfontaine by 308 votes in the rural francophone riding of La Vérendrye. He was re-elected by a much greater margin in the 1966 election. The Liberals were in opposition during this period, and Vielfaure spent his entire legislative career on the opposition benches. The minister of agriculture and agri-food (french: ministre de l'agriculture et de l'agroalimentaire) is a minister of the Crown in the Cabinet of Canada, who is responsible for overseeing several organizations including Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Dairy Commission, Farm Credit Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the National Farm Products Council and the Canadian Grain Commission. Franco-Manitoban People
Franco-Manitobans (french: Franco-Manitobains) are French Canadians or Canadian francophones living in the province of Manitoba. According to the 2016 Canadian Census, 40,975 residents of the province stated that French was their mother tongue. In the same census, 148,810 Manitobans claimed to have either full or partial French ancestry. There are several Franco-Manitoban communities throughout Manitoba, although the majority are based in either the Winnipeg Capital Region or the Eastman Region. The first francophones to enter the region were fur traders during the late 17th century, with the first French settlers arriving in the subsequent century. Francophones constituted the majority of the region's non-First Nations population until the mid 19th century, when anglophones became the linguistic majority. The Manitoba Liberal Party (french: Parti libéral du Manitoba) is a political party in Manitoba, Canada. Its roots can be traced to the late 19th century, following the province's creation in 1870. Origins and early development (to 1883) Originally, there were no official political parties in Manitoba, although many leading politicians were affiliated with parties that existed at the national level. In Manitoba's first Legislative Assembly, the leader of the opposition was Edward Hay, a Liberal who represented the interests of recent anglophone immigrants from Ontario. Not a party leader as such, he was still a leading voice for the newly transplanted "Ontario Grit" tradition. La Verendrye (Manitoba Riding)
La Verendrye is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1879, and has existed since that time. La Verendrye is located southeastern region of Manitoba. It is bordered to the west by Dawson Trail, Emerson, Steinbach, and St. Paul, to the north by Lac Du Bonnet, and to the east by the province of Ontario. Communities in the riding include Falcon Lake, Gardenton, Grunthal, Hadashville, Piney, Pointe du Bois, Sprague, Stuartburn, Sundown, Vita, and West Hawk Lake. The Whiteshell Provincial Park and Sandilands Provincial Forest are also in the riding. The riding's population in 1996 was 19,558.
