Albert Murray (golfer)
Albert Henry Murray (September 3, 1887 — June 17, 1974) was an English born Canadian professional golfer. During his playing career, Murray became the youngest Canadian Open winner in 1908. After rewinning the Canadian Open in 1913, Murray was the 1924 Canadian PGA Championship winner. Outside of playing, Murray planned out golf courses throughout Quebec such as the Royal Quebec Golf Club and Country Club of Montreal. Among his honours, Murray was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 1974 and the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Early life On September 3, 1887, Murray was born in Nottingham, England. After moving to Toronto when he was an infant, Murray was a caddie at the Toronto Golf Club between 1897 and 1902. Canadian Open (golf)
The Canadian Open (french: L'Omnium Canadien) is a professional golf tournament in Canada. It is co-organized by Golf Canada (formerly known as the Royal Canadian Golf Association) and the PGA Tour. It was first played in 1904, and has been held annually since then, except for during World War I, World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic. Charlie Murray (golfer)
Charles Richard Murray (27 August 1882 – 23 June 1938) was a Canadian professional golfer who played in the late 19th century and early 20th century. His best finish in a major championship was ninth in the 1912 U.S. Open. Murray was a 9-time winner of the Quebec Open. Murray won the Canadian Open twice, in 1906 and 1911, and won the inaugural Canadian PGA Championship in 1912. Murray and his brother Albert were co-founders of the PGA of Canada in 1911. The Ritz-Carlton Montreal is a luxury hotel located at 1228 Sherbrooke Street West, on the corner of Drummond Street, in Montreal, Quebec. Opened in 1912, it was the first Ritz-Carlton hotel in North America. Its name was originally licensed by César Ritz directly, and while the hotel is now part of the chain managed by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, it retains its original branding stylization. The original builders called themselves the Carlton Hotel Company of Montreal, with the concept of naming the hotel after London's celebrated Carlton Hotel. Quebec Open (golf)
The Quebec Open is a golf tournament that is held in Quebec, Canada. It was first held in 1909. The tournament was a regular event on the Canadian Tour and its predecessors until 1992 when loss of sponsorship led to it failing to meet tour minimum prize money requirements. It continued for several years, appearing on the tour again in 1996, before enduring an extended hiatus until it was revived in 2014. It then became a stop on the Circuit Canada Pro Tour until the circuit ceased operating at the start of 2019. Originally a 36-hole stroke play event, the tournament was extended to 54 holes in 1966, only reverting to 36 holes in 1978 and 1979 following the demise of the Peter Jackson Tour. The PGA Championship of Canada is a golf tournament organized by the PGA of Canada, an organization founded in 1911 at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. It was first played in 1912 as the Canadian PGA Championship. It was a Nationwide Tour event from 2001 to 2005. Prior to that it was an event on the Canadian Tour.
