Albert Johnston (rugby League)
Albert "Ricketty" Johnston (1891–1961) was a pioneering Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s and 1920s, and coached from the 1920s to the 1940s. He was a three-quarter for the Australian national team, and played in eight tests between 1919 and 1922, two as captain. Playing career Club career He was born and grew up in Balmain, Sydney, and started playing rugby league at a junior level when the game commenced in Australia in 1908. In 1911 he made his first grade debut with the Balmain Tigers at half-back. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. Duncan Thompson
Duncan Fulton Thompson MBE (14 March 1895 – 17 May 1980) was an Australian veteran of both WWI and WWII and a rugby league footballer, coach and administrator. He was wounded on active service in WWI and has been named amongst the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century, and is regarded as the father of modern coaching. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1960 New Year Honours "for services to the community in the field of Sport." Clarrie Prentice
Clarence Warwick Prentice (1 July 1891 – 10 March 1948) was an Australian rugby union and rugby league footballer who represented his country at both sports - a dual-code rugby international. He is the younger brother of fellow Wests player Ward Prentice. Rugby union career Prentice played rugby union with the Western Suburbs Rugby Club in Sydney and represented with the Wallabies as a prop in 1914 against the All Blacks. Rugby league career In 1915 Clarrie, and his brother Archie, joined the Western Suburbs Rugby League Club. His international rugby league debut against New Zealand in Wellington on 23 August 1919, alongside Claud O'Donnell saw them become Australia's 20th and 21st dual code rugby internationals. Tedda Courtney
Ed "Tedda" Courtney (1885–1957) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He played club football for North Sydney, Western Suburbs and representative football for the New South Wales state and Australian national sides. He is considered one of the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century. Born in Townsville, Courtney was one of six brothers who all played for North Sydney. His brothers Raymond and Robert died in World War I. He was a wharfie throughout his working life and was renowned for his fearless tackling style and ability to harass the opposition with his defence. Jack Chaseling
Jack Chaseling (1880–1942) was a pioneer Australian rugby league administrator. Administrative career Born William John Chaseling at Newtown, New South Wales in 1880, he became a legendary figure in the creation and administration of the Newtown Jets from the club's inception. He became the honorary-secretary of Newtown in 1910, and retained that capacity for 32 years until his death in 1942. In his younger days, Jack Chaseling played as a wing three-quarter in the Newtown rugby and rugby league competitions, but it was as a Rugby League administrator that he was best known and remembered. He played a big part in the code of Rugby League through his ties with the Newtown, and he was a member of the NSWRFL management committee for many years as the delegate from the Newtown club. Bill Farnsworth
Andrew William Farnsworth (14 January 1887 – 30 October 1966) was an Australian pioneer rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s whose club career was played in Sydney with Newtown. He represented at state level for both New South Wales and Queensland, and at the national level for Australia and Australasia. He is the brother of fellow New South Wales and Australian representative, and Newtown player Viv Farnsworth. Rugby Union career Farnsworth's rugby union career was played with the Newtown club and he was invited to join the new rebel code from the outset to play against Albert Baskerville's All Golds when they arrived in Sydney in 1907. Arthur Justice
Arthur "Snowy" Justice (1902–1977) was an Australian rugby league footballer, coach and administrator. He was a rugged for the St George Dragons who made state and national representative appearances in the late 1920s. Later he was a club administrator, national selector and league judiciary chairman. Club career A pioneer player with the St George Dragons, he made his first grade debut in the club's second season in the NSWRFL. He captained the club in their maiden (and unsuccessful) Grand final appearance in season 1930 against the Western Suburbs Magpies. This was the first ever Grand Final played to determine the premiership winner.
