Albert Isley
Albert Elias Isley (January 18, 1871 – December 24, 1953) was an American judge, lawyer, and politician. Isley was born in Jasper County, Illinois on a farm. He graduated from Valparaiso University. He lived in Newton, Illinois with his wife and family. Isley served on the board of managers of the state reformatory from 1901 to 1904. He served as a state's attorney for Jasper County from 1904 to 1908. He was a Democrat. Isley also served as an Illinois County Judge for Jasper County. Jasper County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 9,698. Its county seat is Newton. History Jasper County was formed in 1831 out of Clay and Crawford Counties. It was named for Sgt. William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero from South Carolina. During the defense of Fort Moultrie in 1776, the staff of the American flag was shot away. Sgt. Jasper attached the flag to a pole and stood on the wall waving the flag at the British until a new staff was erected. Newton, Illinois
Newton is a city in and the county seat of Jasper County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,849 at the 2010 census, down from 3,069 at the 2000 census. Newton is home to a large coal-fired power plant operated by Illinois Power Generating Co and is close to Newton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area and Sam Parr State Fish and Wildlife Area. Newton is also home to the Drive 'n Theatre, formerly known as the Fairview Drive-In, that opened in 1953. It is one of 10 drive-ins left standing in Illinois.
