Albert Haight
Albert Haight (February 20, 1842 – October 1926) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life He was born on February 20, 1842, in Ellicottville, Cattaraugus County, New York, the son of Henry Haight (born c. 1815) and Sarah Maria (Sisson) Haight (1817–1868). He was admitted to the bar in 1863, and practiced in Buffalo. He was Judge of the Erie County Court from 1873 to 1877. He was a justice of the New York Supreme Court (8th D.) from 1877 to 1894, and was appointed to the General Term (5th Dept.) in 1884. In 1887, he made a controversial decision in a trial involving Standard Oil and John D. Archbold, and was severely censured in the press for it. Subsequently Standard Oil pushed his campaign for the Court of Appeals, but it did not work out. New York State Election, 1894
The 1894 New York state election was held on November 6, 1894, to elect the governor, the lieutenant governor and a judge of the New York Court of Appeals, as well as all members of the New York State Assembly. Besides, a new State Constitution and four other constitutional amendments were proposed to the electorate, and were all accepted. Furthermore, the inhabitants of New York County and adjacent communities were asked if they wanted to join the proposed enlarged New York City, a project known as The Consolidation. Nominations The Socialist Labor state convention met in June in Syracuse, and nominated Charles H. Matchett for Governor; William F. Denis O'Brien (New York Politician)
Denis O'Brien (March 13, 1837 – May 18, 1909) was an American lawyer and politician. Life Denis O'Brien was born on a farm near Ogdensburg, New York on March 13, 1837. He was admitted to the bar in 1861, and commenced practice in Watertown. He was elected Mayor of Watertown in 1872. He was New York State Attorney General from 1884 to 1887, elected on the Democrat ticket in 1883 and 1885. In 1889, he was elected a judge of the New York Court of Appeals, was re-elected in 1903, and remained on the bench until the end of 1907 when he reached the constitutional age limit of 70 years.
