Albert Adu Boahen
Albert Kwadwo Adu Boahen (24 May 1932 – 24 May 2006) was a Ghanaian academic, historian, and politician. He was an academic at the University of Ghana from 1959 to 1990, from 1971 onwards as a professor. As a politician, he notably was a candidate in the 1992 Ghanaian presidential election, representing the main opposition New Patriotic Party. Career Academia Boahen was born in Oseim to Presbyterian parents, and had his ancestral roots in Juaben in the Ashanti Region. He attended religious schools between 1938 and 1947. He then spent three years at the Mfantsipim School before enrolling in history studies at the University College of the Gold Coast in Legon. He graduated in 1956. In 1959 he received a Ph.D. in African history from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, as the first Ghanaian. John Kufuor
John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor (born 8 December 1938) is a Ghanaian politician who served as the President of Ghana from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009. He was also Chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008. Kufuor's career has been spent on the liberal-democratic side of Ghanaian politics, in the parties descended from the United Gold Coast Convention and the United Party. A lawyer and businessman, he was a minister in Kofi Abrefa Busia's Progress Party government during Ghana's Second Republic, and a Popular Front Party opposition frontbencher during the Third Republic. In the Fourth Republic Kufuor stood as the New Patriotic Party's candidate at the 1996 election, and then led it to victory in 2000 and 2004. General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 1996. In the presidential election, incumbent Jerry Rawlings of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was reelected in a single round, defeating John Kufuor of the Great Alliance (led by Kufuor's New Patriotic Party with 57.3 percent of the vote. 1992 Ghanaian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Ghana on 29 December 1992, the first since 1979. Voter turnout was just 28.1% amidst a boycott by opposition parties, who had claimed the preceding presidential elections in November – won by former military ruler Jerry Rawlings with 58% of the vote – were fraudulent, with international observers considering them not to have been conducted in a free and fair manner. The result was a victory for Rawlings's National Democratic Congress, which won 189 of the 200 seats. Alhaji Roland Issifu Alhassan (September 15, 1935 – April 14, 2014) was a Ghanaian politician, lawyer and diplomat. Alhassan was a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), specifically in the country's Northern Region. Career Alhassan was a commercial farmer who cultivated rice and maize. Political career He served as an MP for Tolon-Kumbungu from 1969 to 1972 and 1979–1981. In 1992, Alhassan was a candidate for Vice President of Ghana as the running mate of presidential hopeful, Albert Adu Boahen. He also served as Ghana's ambassador to Germany from 2001 to 2006 during the administration of former President John Kufuor. Jerry Rawlings
Jerry John Rawlings (22 June 194712 November 2020) was a Ghanaian military officer and politician who led the country for a brief period in 1979, and then from 1981 to 2001. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana. Rawlings came to power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d'état in 1979. Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on 15 May 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place. After handing power over to a civilian government, he took back control of the country on 31 December 1981 as the chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). General History Of Africa
The General History of Africa (GHA) is a two-phase project launched by UNESCO in 1964. The 1964 General Conference of UNESCO, during its 13th Session, instructed the Organization to undertake this initiative after the newly independent African Member States expressed a strong desire to reclaim their cultural identity, to rectify widespread ignorance about their Continent's history, and to break free of discriminatory prejudices.
