Albay Vulcans
The Albay Vulcans is a Philippine rugby union and rugby league team based in Legazpi, Albay. They played in the Philippines National Rugby League Championship. Name and Emblem They are named after the active Mayon Volcano which overlooks Legazpi. History The club was founded by Ric Raymond Bellen initially formed as a rugby league club they shifted to playing rugby union but with support from the PNRL (Philippines National Rugby League) they were able to organise a home game at the Bicol University sports field against the Manila Storm in which they lost 30-14. Bicol University (Central Bikol language, Bikol: ''Unibersidad nin Bikol'', Tagalog language, Tagalog: ''Pamantasan ng Bikol''), also referred to by its acronym (BU or Bicol U), is a regional state, research and coeducational higher education institution in Legazpi, Albay, Legazpi City, Albay, Philippines with associate campuses scattered throughout the provinces of Albay and Sorsogon. BU is an International Organization for Standardization, ISO 9001:2008 certified public university. The university is partly subsidized by the Philippine government. Students of the university and its graduates are referred to as “''Mga Iskolar ng Bayan''” (“Scholars of the Nation”) but they are commonly called as Bueños.
