Alaska-Alberta Railway Development Corporation
The Alaska-Alberta Railway Development Corporation (also known as A2A for Alaska to Alberta) was an entity created to build, own, and operate a proposed railroad between Delta Junction, Alaska, and Fort McMurray, Alberta. In 2021, the company was put in receivership and the project was on hold due to financial irregularities between the A2A president and main financial backer Bridging Finance. The railroad was planned to interchange with and operate on part of the Alaska Railroad, in order to access Southcentral Alaska and its ports. the project was estimated to cost CA$20 billion. A rival enterprise, G7G Railway, estimated in 2020 the capital cost to be just under US$20 billion. Delta Junction ( uk, Делта-Джанкшен, Delta Dzhankshen) is a city in the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, Alaska, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 958, up from 840 in 2000. The 2018 estimate was down to 931. The city is located a short distance south of the confluence of the Delta River with the Tanana River, which is at Big Delta. It is about south of Fairbanks. Native inhabitants are Tanana Athabaskans. History For at least 10,000 years, Athabascan indigenous peoples have inhabited portions of the interior of Alaska. Canada has a large and well-developed railway system that primarily transports freight. There are two major publicly traded transcontinental freight railway systems, Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific (CP). There have been various proposals to establish a rail line that links Canada and Alaska. History 1890–1919 The Edmonton and District Railway Company received a charter in 1898 to build westward from Edmonton, District of Alberta, North-West Territories, to Pelly River, Yukon. Changing the company name to the Edmonton, Yukon and Pacific Railway Company (EY&PR) in 1899, their charter eventually lapsed.
