In biology, a monotypic taxon is a taxonomic group (taxon) that contains only one immediately subordinate taxon. Boryaceae
Boryaceae is a family of highly drought-tolerant flowering plants native to Australia, placed in the order Asparagales of the monocots. The family includes two genera, with twelve species in total in Australia. Until recently, this family was not recognized by many taxonomists, with most systems putting the two genera, ''Borya'' and '' Alania'', in the Anthericaceae or the Liliaceae. Endemism is the state of a species being found in a single defined geographic location, such as an island, state, nation, country or other defined zone; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere.
