Alan Thompson (footballer Born 1973)
Alan Thompson (born 22 December 1973) is an English football coach and former professional footballer. As a player he was a midfielder who notably played in the Premier League for Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa and in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic. He also played in the Football League with Newcastle United, Leeds United and Hartlepool United He made 550 appearances during his career and was capped by England once against Sweden in 2004. Following retirement, Thompson has worked as a coach for Newcastle United, Celtic, Birmingham City and Blackpool. He also had a brief spell as assistant manager of Bury but was dismissed with Lee Clark in October 2017. Club career Thompson was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. 2005 Scottish Cup Final
The 2005 Scottish Cup Final was played on 28 May 2005 at Hampden Park in Glasgow and was the final of the 120th Scottish Cup. The final was contested by Celtic and Dundee United. Celtic won the match with an eleventh-minute goal from Alan Thompson. Background Dundee United had had a difficult season and had dismissed manager Ian McCall in March with the club facing being relegated from the Scottish Premier League, appointing his assistant Gordon Chisholm as his replacement, initially on an interim basis. 2003 UEFA Cup Final
The 2003 UEFA Cup Final was played on 21 May 2003 between Celtic of Scotland and Porto of Portugal. Porto won the match 3–2 in extra time thanks to a goal from Derlei. This was also the first game to use the silver goal rule, although it did not affect the outcome of the game as Porto scored in the second half of extra-time, thus meaning the game had to be played until the end of extra-time. Prior to this game, no club from Scotland or Portugal had ever won the UEFA Cup. The game had what UEFA described at the time as "the largest travelling support to have assembled for a single game" – around 80,000 Celtic fans travelled to Seville for the final. Martin O'Neill
Martin Hugh Michael O'Neill, (born 1 March 1952) is a Northern Irish professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. Starting his career in Northern Ireland, O'Neill moved to England where he spent most of his playing career with Nottingham Forest, with whom he won the European Cup twice, in 1979 and 1980. He was capped 64 times for the Northern Ireland national football team, also captaining the side at the 1982 World Cup. Selhurst Park is a football stadium in Selhurst in the London Borough of Croydon which is the home ground of Premier League side Crystal Palace. The University of Bolton Stadium is the home ground of Bolton Wanderers F.C. in Horwich, Greater Manchester, England. Opening in 1997, it was named the Reebok Stadium, after club sponsors Reebok.
