Alan Michael (musician)
Alen J. Matković (born 20 July 1970), known professionally as Alan Michael, is a Yugoslav-born Polish-Dutch singer, songwriter and record producer. He is known for his participation in the 1987 Sopot International Song Festival and for being one of the songwriters of the Dutch Eurovision Song Contest entries " One Good Reason" () and " One More Night" (). Biography Matković was born on 20 July 1970 in Rijeka, SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia to a Polish mother and a Yugoslav father. He moved to the Netherlands in his early childhood and grew up in Zandvoort, North Holland. Matković began playing piano at the age of six, and recorded his first single when he was twelve years old. His second single, "Is That You", was released by the record label Warner-Elektra-Atlantic (WEA) in 1987. Rijeka ( , , ; also known as Fiume hu, Fiume, it, Fiume ; local Chakavian: ''Reka''; german: Sankt Veit am Flaum; sl, Reka) is the principal seaport and the third-largest city in Croatia (after Zagreb and Split). Maywood (duo)
Maywood was a Dutch singing duo consisting of sisters Aaltje ("Alie") and Doetje ("Edith") de Vries. They each took on a stage name for the project: Alie, a blonde, (songwriting, background and harmony vocals, keyboards) became "Alice May" and the dark-haired Edith (lead vocals) became "Caren Wood". The duo were active as recording artists between 1978 and 1992, and their best known songs are "Late At Night" (a #1 hit in the Netherlands, and a significant chart hit in several other nations), "Give Me Back My Love", and "Rio". The Netherlands was represented by Ruth Jacott, with the song "Vrede", at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Millstreet, Ireland on 15 May. The song was chosen at the Dutch national final on 26 March. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1993 The final took place on 26 March 1993 at the Discothèque Escape in Amsterdam, hosted by Paul de Leeuw. Nationaal Songfestival
(; ) was an annual music competition, which was originally organised by the Dutch public broadcaster (NTS), and later by the (NOS) and (TROS). It was staged almost every year between 1956 and 2012 to determine the country's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. The festival has produced four Eurovision winners and eight top-five placings for the Netherlands at the contest. Due to declining interest in the competition and the Netherlands' poor performance in the Eurovision Song Contest in the late 2000s and early 2010s, it was decided that the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 would be internally selected. The ''Nieuwsblad van het Noorden'' (; "Newspaper of the North") is a former regional daily newspaper from the city of Groningen in the Netherlands.
