Alan Philip James Manly (born in 1950) is an Australian entrepreneur, company director and published author. Career After dropping out of year nine at Bacchus Marsh High School in the north-west of Victoria, Australia, Alan worked as a postman before securing an apprenticeship as a television repairman. For eight years, Alan worked at Digital Equipment Corporation first as a computer technician, then in sales and marketing. Alan commenced his entrepreneurial career as a founding Director of a software company that developed and sold computerised freight tracking and integrated management systems used by major independent freight companies. Digital Equipment Corporation
Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC ), using the trademark Digital, was a major American company in the computer industry from the 1960s to the 1990s. The company was co-founded by Ken Olsen and Harlan Anderson in 1957. Olsen was president until forced to resign in 1992, after the company had gone into precipitous decline. The company produced many different product lines over its history. It is best known for the work in the minicomputer market starting in the mid-1960s. The company produced a series of machines known as the PDP line, with the PDP-8 and PDP-11 being among the most successful minis in history. Their success was only surpassed by another DEC product, the late-1970s VAX "supermini" systems that were designed to replace the PDP-11. Alexander George Hawke (born 9 July 1977) is an Australian politician who served as Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs from 2020 to 2022 in the Morrison Government. Hawke has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Mitchell since 2007, representing the Liberal Party. Hawke previously served as Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Assistant Minister for Defence from May 2019 to December 2020, and Special Minister of State from 2018 to 2019 in the Second and First Morrison Ministries respectively. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Before the establishment of the order, Australian citizens received British honours. Julian Reginald Day is a published author, IT computer project manager and charity fundraiser. Career Day studied business studies at Plymouth Polytechnic (UK) and, in 1978, entered the computer industry as a trainee sales and support executive with Burroughs in England. Since migrating to Australia in 1986, Day has been an IT consultant to large private and public organisations.
