Alan Mangan
Alan Mangan (born June 1979) is a dual player of Gaelic games, a hurling coach, manager, selector and former Gaelic footballer. He played football and hurling for Westmeath. Playing career Club Mangan first played hurling for Castletown Geoghegan as a 16-year-old, at which age he played as a goalkeeper in a Westmeath Senior Hurling Championship final. He won three Westmeath SHC medals while playing with his club, the first in 2004, adding another in 2013. Mangan also played football for the St Malachy's club. Inter-county Mangan played senior inter-county hurling for Westmeath for two years: 1999 and 2000. His inter-county football debut for Westmeath, limited to substitute appearances, was as part of the team that won the 1999 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship and retained the Leinster Under-21 Football Championship the following year, under the management of Luke Dempsey. Westmeath GAA
The Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na hIarmhí) or Westmeath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Westmeath. The county board is also responsible for the Westmeath county teams. The county football team won the Leinster Senior Football Championship in 2004. The Monaghan county football team ( ) represents Monaghan in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Monaghan GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The ''Westmeath Examiner'' is a weekly newspaper in Westmeath, Ireland. It was founded in 1882. Willie Penrose
Willie Penrose (born 1 August 1956) is a former Irish Labour Party politician who served as Chairman of the Labour Parliamentary Party from 2016 to 2020 and a Minister of State from March 2011 to November 2011. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1992 to 2020. Education and professional career Penrose was born in Ballynacargy, County Westmeath, in 1956. He was educated at Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar, Multyfarnham Agricultural College, University College Dublin (UCD), and the King's Inns. 2020 Irish General Election
The 2020 Irish general election took place on Saturday 8 February, to elect the 33rd Dáil, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. The election was called following the dissolution of the 32nd Dáil by the president, at the request of the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, on 14 January 2020. The members, Teachtaí Dála (TDs), were elected by single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. It was the first election since 1918 to be held on a weekend. The election was an unprecedented three-way race, with the three largest parties each winning a share of the vote between 20% and 25%. Longford–Westmeath is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. Michael Ryan (hurler, Born 1955)
Michael Ryan (born 9 August 1955) is a retired Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who played in various positions for The Nire–Fourmilewater club teams. In retirement from playing Ryan became involved in team management. As manager and selector of the Waterford, Laois and Dublin inter-county teams he has won seven All-Ireland. With the Ballymacarbry ladies' football team Ryan won multiple All-Ireland club titles while he also gained a wealth of experience training various club teams in hurling. Ryan was the manager of the Waterford senior hurling team for the 2012 and 2013 seasons and took over as Westmeath senior hurling team manager in October 2014. Selector (sport)
In some team sports, a selector is a member of a selection panel which chooses teams or individuals to represent a country or club or other representative team in sporting competitions. For example, a selector in cricket is an administrative position involved in choosing players to represent a particular team in a match. Darren Rooney
Darren Rooney is an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler from County Laois. His dual status makes him most unusual in the modern GAA. He currently plays for the Parnells club in Dublin. 2004 Leinster Senior Football Championship Final
The 2004 Leinster Senior Football Championship Final was the final football match of the 2004 Leinster Senior Football Championship (SFC), contested by Laois and Westmeath over two games in Croke Park, Dublin. The first game finished level so a replay occurred. Westmeath won their first ever title at senior level, leaving Wicklow and Fermanagh as the only other counties yet to achieve this. The season also saw the emergence of Denis Glennon. Pre-match Westmeath had only ever appeared in two Leinster SFC finals in their history: in 1931 and 1949.
