Alan Caldwell Hunter (born February 14, 1957) is one of the original five video jockeys ( VJs) on MTV from 1981 to 1987 (along with Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, J. J. Jackson and Martha Quinn). He is a host on SiriusXM Radio's The 80s on 8 channel and on the Classic Rewind channel. He co-owns the production company Hunter Films with his brother Hugh. He, Hugh and two other brothers also founded WorkPlay, a multipurpose office, studio and entertainment facility in Birmingham, Alabama. He also hosted the reality show ''Looking for Stars'' on the Starz cable television channel as well as the Encore series ''Big 80s Weekend''. Alan Hunter (author)
Alan Hunter (25 June 1922 – 26 February 2005) was an English author of crime fiction, writing 46 novels featuring Inspector George Gently. Initially a farmer, he became an antiquarian bookseller before writing his first novel. Life Hunter was born at Hoveton, Norfolk and went to school across the River Bure in Wroxham. He left school at 14 and worked on his father's farm near Norwich. He enjoyed dinghy sailing on the Norfolk Broads, wrote natural history notes for the local newspaper, and wrote poetry, some of which was published while he was in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He married, in 1944, Adelaide Cubitt, who survived him with their daughter. After the war he managed the antiquarian books department of Charles Cubitt in Norwich. Four years later, in 1950, he established his own bookshop on Maddermarket in the city. Alan Hunter (born 30 July 1964) was an Australian soccer player who played for several National Soccer League (NSL) clubs, most notably for the Brisbane Strikers. Hunter was born in Northern Ireland. Al Hunter is a New Zealand country music singer-songwriter whose debut album, ''Neon Cowboy'', released in 1987, "made country hip". Hunter was a soul singer in such Auckland bands of the late 1960s and '70s as Killing Floor, Cruise Lane, Chapeaux and the Hunter McCallum Band before embracing country music. His debut album was produced by Stuart Pearce and Dave Marett on a budget CBS had provided for a single. It was recorded in Australia at Greystoke Music Studios and included contributions from Dave Dobbyn. Hunter's following two albums were released by Pagan in the 1990s. Respected New Zealand rock historian John Dix wrote, "Wellington had the Warratahs; Auckland had the indomitable Al Hunter. Alan Hunter CBE (9 September 1912 East Ham, London – 11 December 1995) was an English astronomer who spent his career at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, serving as Director between 1973 and 1975. Early life Alan Hunter was born in East Ham, East London, on 9 September 1912. He attended East Ham Grammar School, then studied physics at Imperial College London from where he graduated with a BSc degree. He remained at the college as a research student studying spectroscopy, leading to the award of a PhD degree. Assistant at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich Hunter was appointed an assistant at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich in 1937, at a time when the observatory was under the directorship of Sir Harold Spencer Jones, the Astronomer Royal.
