Alan Grieve
Alan Thomas Grieve, (born 22 January 1928) is a lawyer, company director and chairman of the Jerwood Foundation. Alan Grieve was born in London, England. He was educated at Aldenham School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He undertook National Service and was commissioned in 1949 in the Royal Armoured Corps (14th/20th King's Hussars); he subsequently served as a Territorial Army officer in the City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders). He joined the Gray's Inn solicitors Taylor & Humbert in 1958 after gaining commercial, city and merger and acquisition experience as an assistant solicitor at Slaughter and May. He became senior partner of Taylor & Humbert in 1980. During those 22 years the firms expanded as a commercial and private client practice and established Interlex, an international grouping of lawyers. Jerwood Foundation
The Jerwood Foundation is an independent grant-making foundation in the United Kingdom. In 1999 the Jerwood Foundation established the Jerwood Charitable Foundation, a registered charity under English law. History The Jerwood Foundation was established in 1977 by Alan Grieve for John Jerwood, an international businessman and philanthropist. Since Jerwood's death in 1991 it has been administered by Grieve. The Jerwood Foundation is a patron of the arts. Amanda Harlech
Amanda Jane Ormsby-Gore, Baroness Harlech (''née'' Grieve; May 1958) is a British creative consultant and writer with a long association with the couturiers John Galliano and Karl Lagerfeld. She was named to the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1997. Early life Amanda Jane Grieve was born in 1958 in north London, the daughter of Alan Grieve, a solicitor and director of the Jerwood Foundation and his first wife, Anne Dulake. She grew up in Regent's Park where one of her childhood companions was Jasper Conran. She was educated at South Hampstead High School and Marlborough College before studying English at Somerville College, Oxford University, specialising in the work of Henry James. City Of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) Officers
The City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) was a yeomanry regiment of the British Territorial Army, formed in 1901 from veterans of the Second Boer War. In World War I it served dismounted in the Gallipoli Campaign but reverted to the mounted role in the Senussi campaign, at Salonika and in Palestine. It ended the war as a machine gun unit on the Western Front. In the interwar years it was reduced to a battery in a composite Royal Horse Artillery unit in London, but in the period of rearmament before World War II it was expanded into a full regiment of light anti-aircraft artillery. It served in this role during The Blitz and later in the Tunisian and Italian campaigns. Postwar it became an armoured regiment. It amalgamated with the Inns of Court Regiment to form the Inns of Court & City Yeomanry in 1961.
