Alan Green Jr.
Alan "Punch" Green Jr. (May 1, 1925 – March 23, 2001) was the United States Ambassador to Romania from 1989 to 1992. Green's service began just before the overthrow and execution of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. He evacuated women and children from the grounds and slept on his office couch for ten days due to explosions around Bucharest., In May 1990, he was recalled “to Washington for 'consultations.' A State Department spokeswoman described the action as a 'public signal of our concern for the process of free and fair elections.'” Business careers Green was chairman of the board and owner of Tom Benson Glass Co. Roger Kirk (diplomat)
Roger Kirk (born November 2, 1930) is a career diplomat and former United States Ambassador to Somalia (1973–75) and Romania (1985–1989). He was born in Newport, Rhode Island. Kirk received a BA from Princeton University in 1952 and served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1955. From 1973 until 1975 he was the US Ambassador to Somalia. In 1978 he was nominated to be the Deputy Representative of the US to the International Atomic Energy Agency, in which capacity he served from 1978 until 1983. From 1985 until 1989 he was the US Ambassador to Romania. Thomas Lawson McCall (March 22, 1913 January 8, 1983) was an American statesman, politician and journalist in the state of Oregon. A Republican, he was the state's thirtieth governor from 1967 to 1975. A native of Massachusetts, McCall grew up there and in central Oregon and attended the University of Oregon in Eugene. After college, he worked as a journalist, including time at ''The Oregonian'' in Portland during Later he worked in radio and then in television as a newscaster and political commentator. A United States diplomatic representative to Romania has existed since 1880. The United States formally recognized Romania in 1878, following the Treaty of Berlin; diplomatic relations were opened in 1880, and American diplomats were sent to the country.
