Alan Graham Carr (born 14 June 1976) is an English comedian, broadcaster and writer. His breakthrough was in 2001, winning the '' City Life'' Best Newcomer of the Year and the BBC New Comedy Awards. In the ensuing years, Carr's career burgeoned on the Manchester comedy circuit before he became known for co-hosting ''The Friday Night Project'' (2006–2009) with Justin Lee Collins. This led to the release of a short-lived entertainment show '' Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong'' (2008), and he went on to star in the comedy chat show '' Alan Carr: Chatty Man'' (2009–2016) which aired on Channel 4. Since 2017, Carr often stands in as a team captain on ''8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown''. In 2019, he became a judge on ''RuPaul's Drag Race UK''. Alan Carr (politician)
Alan Carr (born 1948) is a former trade unionist and politician from Northern Ireland. Carr studied at Annadale Grammar School in Belfast and the New University of Ulster,''The Times Guide to the House of Commons May 1979'', p.48 at which he founded a Labour Club. He joined the Northern Ireland Labour Party (NILP), and was first elected to its executive committee in 1970/71. Carr became a lecturer and administrator for the Open University, and was the NILP's leading figure from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, chairing the party for much of the period. While the British and Irish Communist Organisation claimed that he was a member of their group in the early 1970s, he was criticised by them later in the decade. He also led the expulsion of Peter Hadden's Labour and Trade Union Group from the NILP in 1977, and with the Newtownabbey Labour Party, which split away from the NILP following disputes over the Ulster Workers' Strike. Allan Carr (born Allan Solomon; May 27, 1937 – June 29, 1999) was an American producer and manager of stage for the screen. Carr was nominated for numerous awards, winning a Tony Award and two People's Choice Awards, and was named Producer of the Year by the National Association of Theatre Owners. Early career Carr was born Allan Solomon to an American Jewish family in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Lake Forest College and Northwestern University, but his interest was always in show business. While at Northwestern, he invested $750 in the Broadway musical ''Ziegfeld Follies'' starring Tallulah Bankhead. Though the show was not a hit, he had also invested $1,250 in 1967's ''The Happiest Millionaire,'' which gave him the success he needed to leave school and embark upon a career in entertainment. Allen Carr
Allen John Carr (2 September 1934 – 29 November 2006) was a British author of books about stopping smoking and other psychological dependencies including alcohol addiction. Biography Born in Putney, London, Carr started smoking cigarettes while doing National Service aged 18. He qualified as an accountant in 1958. Carr finally stopped smoking on 15 July 1983, aged 48, after a visit to a hypnotherapist. However, it wasn't the hypnotherapy itself that enabled him to stop – "I succeeded in spite of and not because of that visit" and "I lit up the moment I left the clinic and made my way home...". There were two key pieces of information that enabled Carr to stop later that day. First, the hypnotherapist told him smoking was "just nicotine addiction", which Carr had never perceived before that moment, i.e. that he was an addict. Second, his son John lent him a medical handbook which explained that the physical withdrawal from nicotine is just like an "empty, insecure feeling". ...
