Alan Browne
Alan Browne (born 23 January 1974) is an Irish retired hurler who played for Cork Senior Championship club Blackrock. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for 9 years, during which time he usually lined out as a forward. Browne began his hurling career at club level with Blackrock. He broke onto the club's top adult team straight out of the minor grade in 1992. One of the most prolific scorers of his era, Browne made 71 championship appearances for the club before his retirement in 2011 and was part of the Cork Senior Championship-winning teams of 1999, 2001 and 2002. At inter-county level, Browne was part of the successful Cork under-21 team that won the Munster Championship in 1993. He joined the Cork senior team in 1994. Blackrock GAA
Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships. The club is sometimes known as 'The Rockies'. History Blackrock Hurling Club was officially founded in 1883, one year before the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association itself. It is therefore the oldest hurling club in Cork. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. John Browne (hurler)
John Browne (born 1977) is an Irish hurling manager and former hurler who played for Cork Senior Championship club Blackrock. He played for the Cork senior hurling team over a seven-year period, during which time he usually lined out as a left corner-back. Browne's brothers, Alan and Richard, also played for Cork. Browne began his hurling career at club level with Blackrock. He broke onto the club's senior team straight out of the minor grade in 1995 was part of three Cork Senior Championship-winning teams - 1998, 1999 and 2001. Browne's early prowess also saw him selected for University College Cork, with whom he won a Fitzgibbon Cup title. Richard Browne (hurler)
Richard Browne (born 1962) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a full-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Blackrock, County Cork, Browne first played competitive hurling in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Cork under-21 team. He made his senior debut during the 1986 championship. Browne subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal. At club level Browne is a one-time championship medallist with Blackrock. Browne's brothers, Alan and John, also enjoyed All-Ireland success with Cork. Throughout his career Browne made 14 championship appearances. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1991 championship. Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. The 2001 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 74th series of the inter-provincial hurling Railway Cup. Three matches were played between 10 November 2001 and 11 November 2001 to decide the title. The 2000 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 73rd series of the inter-provincial hurling Railway Cup. Three matches were played between 11 November 2000 and 12 November 2000 to decide the title. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster. Connacht entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Munster at the semi-final stage. On 12 November 2000, Munster won the Railway Cup after a 3-15 to 2-15 defeat of Leinster in the final at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny. The 1996 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 68th staging of the Railway Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1927. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league.
