Alain Pasquier
Alain Pasquier (born 1 August 1942) is a French art historian specialising in ancient Greek art, museography and conservation. Biography Former student of the École Normale Supérieure (graduated 1962) and successful candidate of the Agrégation de lettres classiques (1966), Pasquier became a student of the French School at Athens from 1971 to 1974. After graduating, he became a curator at the Department of Greek, Roman and Etruscan Antiquities at the Louvre Museum. In 1984, he was nominated head curator and then, in 1988, the general inspector of the Musées de France (a set of nationally funded museums). He directed the Department of Greek, Roman and Etruscan Antiquities from 1999 to 2007. Jean-Luc Martinez succeeded him. Since 1974, he has been a professor of Greek archeology, in charge of Ancient Greek sculpture, at the École du Louvre. Ancient Greek Art
Ancient Greek art stands out among that of other ancient cultures for its development of naturalistic but idealized depictions of the human body, in which largely nude male figures were generally the focus of innovation. The rate of stylistic development between about 750 and 300 BC was remarkable by ancient standards, and in surviving works is best seen in Ancient Greek sculpture, sculpture. There were important innovations in painting, which have to be essentially reconstructed due to the lack of original survivals of quality, other than the distinct field of painted pottery. Greek architecture, technically very simple, established a harmonious style with numerous detailed conventions that were largely adopted by Roman architecture and are still followed in some modern buildings.
