State Route 63 (SR 63) is a state highway in the central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 14 at Claud, an unincorporated community in Elmore County. The northern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 9 south of Millerville, an unincorporated community in southeastern Clay County. Route description SR 63 is a two-lane highway for its entire length. As the highway travels through rural Elmore County, it travels to the northeast until it approaches Eclectic, where it takes a brief turn to the west before turning northward. The highway crosses over Lake Martin as it travels from Elmore County into Tallapoosa County, passing the entrance to Wind Creek State Park along the lake. Elmore County, Alabama
Elmore County is a county located in the east central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 87,977. Its county seat is Wetumpka. Its name is in honor of General John A. Elmore. Elmore County is part of the Montgomery, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Elmore County was established on February 15, 1866, from portions of Autauga, Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Montgomery counties. The French established Fort Toulouse at the confluence of the Coosa and Tallapoosa in 1717. Gen. Andrew Jackson then erected Fort Jackson in 1814 at the site of Fort Toulouse following the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. On July 2, 1901, a local mob lynched Robert (or perhaps Robin) White. In a strange turn of events, a local farmer, George White confessed in court to the killing and named five other local men as killers. Eclectic is a town in Elmore County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in 1907. At the 2020 census, the population was 1,193. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Eclectic was founded by Dr. M. L. Fielder, a practitioner of eclectic medicine, hence the name. It has been noted on lists of unusual place names. Wind Creek State Park
Wind Creek State Park is a public recreation area located south of Alexander City, Alabama, on the western side of Lake Martin, a reservoir on the Tallapoosa River. The state park occupies and is managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Activities and amenities The park offers boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking, hiking and equestrian trails, a large camping area, and rental cabins. A grain silo built in 1915 that sits on the edge of the lake is topped by a viewing platform and has a nature center in its base. Lake Martin
Lake Martin is located in Tallapoosa, Elmore and Coosa counties in Alabama. It is a 39,000-acre (178 km²) reservoir with over 750 miles (1,200 km) of wooded shoreline. Lake Martin is a reservoir, enlarged by the construction of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River.The Martin Dam powerhouse is used to generate hydroelectric power for the Alabama Power Company. Construction on Martin Dam began in 1923 and was completed in 1926, creating what was, at that time, the largest man-made body of water in the world. Alexander City, known to locals as "Alex City", is the largest city in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States, with a population of 14,843 as of the 2020 census.
