State Route 170 (SR 170) is a state highway that serves as an east-west connection between Wetumpka and Eclectic through Elmore County. SR 170 intersects US 231 at its western terminus and SR 63 at its eastern terminus. Route description SR 170 begins at its intersection with US 231 in Wetumpka. SR 170 then generally travels in a northeasterly course in intersecting SR 14 prior to leaving Wetumpka en route to its eastern terminus at SR 63 in Eclectic. Wetumpka () is a city in and the county seat of Elmore County, Alabama, Elmore County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 7,220. In the early 21st century Elmore County became one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. The city is considered part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Area. Eclectic is a town in Elmore County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in 1907. At the 2020 census, the population was 1,193. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Eclectic was founded by Dr. M. L. Fielder, a practitioner of eclectic medicine, hence the name. It has been noted on lists of unusual place names. Elmore County is a county located in the east central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 87,977. Its county seat is Wetumpka. Its name is in honor of General John A. Elmore. Elmore County is part of the Montgomery, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Elmore County was established on February 15, 1866, from portions of Autauga, Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Montgomery counties. The French established Fort Toulouse at the confluence of the Coosa and Tallapoosa in 1717. Gen. Andrew Jackson then erected Fort Jackson in 1814 at the site of Fort Toulouse following the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. On July 2, 1901, a local mob lynched Robert (or perhaps Robin) White. In a strange turn of events, a local farmer, George White confessed in court to the killing and named five other local men as killers. State Route 63 (SR 63) is a state highway in the central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 14 at Claud, an unincorporated community in Elmore County. The northern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 9 south of Millerville, an unincorporated community in southeastern Clay County. Route description SR 63 is a two-lane highway for its entire length. As the highway travels through rural Elmore County, it travels to the northeast until it approaches Eclectic, where it takes a brief turn to the west before turning northward. Alabama State Route 14
State Route 14 (SR 14) is a major east-to-west state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama. Spanning , the highway begins at the Mississippi state line at the terminus of Mississippi Highway 69 (MS 69) and connects the cities of Selma and Prattville before ending at SR 147 on the western side of Auburn. History SR 14 was one of the original routes in the Alabama's first statewide highway system in the 1920s. The original routing followed much of the same path as today, but was significantly shorter. The highway as built then started in Selma and traveled east along its current route to Auburn. As was standard for highways of the era, SR 14 was unpaved for its full length.
