Al Tudi Tuhak
''Al Tudi Tuhak'', meaning "a long time ago" in the Lushootseed language, was a short animated film made in 1999 based on the folk culture of the people of the Northwestern coast of the U.S. It won the student Academy Award in 2000, and was nominated for best short film at the 2000 "Annie" awards. The film was written, directed, and produced by Tod Polson at California Institute of the Arts. Other animation was provided by Ben Jones, and Mike Polvani. Ink and paint was supervised by Bernadette Gonzales, and used latex housepaint. The score and sound was created by William Benson, who researched tribal music in the northwest coast particularly for this project. The film was shot at Stokes/Kohne, and at Fil-Cartoons in the Philippines. The film was the first installment of an intended series of short films called "Noble Tales". Lushootseed
Lushootseed (txʷəlšucid, dxʷləšúcid), also Puget Salish, Puget Sound Salish or Skagit-Nisqually, is a language made up of a dialect continuum of several Salish tribes of modern-day Washington state. Lushootseed is one of the Coast Salish languages, one of two main divisions of the Salishan language family. Its pre-contact range extended from modern-day Olympia, Washington to Vancouver, British Columbia, spoken by roughly 12 thousand at its peak. The dialects of the language can be split into two categories: northern and southern, which can further be split into dialects spoken by the individual peoples who spoke it. Today, it is mostly used in heritage and symbolic purposes, like on signage or place names. It is seldom spoken today, and is classified as Critically Endangered by the UNESCO Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger. Annie Award
The Annie Awards are accolades which the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Association, ASIFA-Hollywood, has presented each year since 1972 to recognize excellence in animation shown in cinema and television. Originally designed to celebrate lifetime or career contributions to animation, the award has been given to individual works since 1992. Membership in ASIFA-Hollywood is divided into three main categories: General Member (for professionals), Patron (for enthusiasts of animation), and Student Member. The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is a private art university in Santa Clarita, California. It was incorporated in 1961 as the first degree-granting institution of higher learning in the US created specifically for students of both the visual and performing arts. Maurice Noble
Maurice James Noble (May 1, 1911 – May 18, 2001) was an American animation production designer, background artist and layout designer whose contributions to the industry spanned more than 60 years. He was a long-time associate and right-hand man of animation director Chuck Jones, especially at Warner Bros. including Disney, MGM, Walter Lantz and Hanna-Barbera in the 1950s. His work contributed to such cartoon classics as ''Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century'', ''What's Opera, Doc?'' and the Road Runner series. Early life and Disney years Maurice Noble was born in Spooner Township, Minnesota. He spent much of his childhood in New Mexico and Southern California.
