Al Rakim
In Islamic tradition, Qitmir () was the dog that guarded the People of the Cave and stood by them all through their long sleep. His name, Qitmir, in Arabic is the name of a small membrane on separating a date from its seed. He is sometimes called Ar-Raqim (), although narrations identify that Ar-Raqim was the name of the cave, or the name of a "brass plate, or stone table". He is regarded as one of the most important animals of Islam. In Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Ibn Jurayj described Qitmir as laying outside the door on his stomach with his front legs stretched out. He was also said to be either the hunting dog of one of the Seven Sleepers, which is the more accepted view, or the dog of the king’s chef, who accepted the Seven Sleepers' religious views, and brought Qitmir with him. Seven Sleepers
In the Islamic and Christian traditions, the Seven Sleepers, otherwise known as the Sleepers of Ephesus and Companions of the Cave, is a medieval legend about a group of youths who hid inside a cave outside the city of Ephesus (modern-day Selçuk, Turkey) around AD 250 to escape one of the Roman persecutions of Christians and emerged some 300 years later. ''Phoenix dactylifera'', commonly known as date or date palm, is a flowering plant species in the palm family, Arecaceae, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit called dates. The species is widely cultivated across northern Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, and is naturalized in many tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. ''P. dactylifera'' is the type species of genus ''Phoenix'', which contains 12–19 species of wild date palms. Ibn Jurayj
Abd al-Malik ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Jurayj ( ar, عبد الملك بن عبد العزيز بن جريج , translit=ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAbd al-Azīz ibn Jurayj, 80 AH/699 CE - 150 AH/767 CE) was an eighth-century ''faqīh'', exegete and hadith transmitter from the Taba' at-Tabi'in. Biography Ibn Jurayj was born in Mecca in 70 AH/699 CE. His father Abd al-Aziz was reportedly a ''faqīh'', while his grandfather Jurayj was of Byzantine origin; Jurayj is an Arabic rendition of the Greek name Grēgórios. Al-Kahf ( ar, الكهف, ; The Cave) is the 18th chapter (sūrah) of the Quran with 110 verses ( āyāt). Cave Of The Seven Sleepers
The Cave of the Seven Sleepers ( ar, كهف الرقيم, ') is a historical and religious site in al-Rajib, a village to the east of Amman. It is claimed that this cave housed the Seven Sleepers ( ar, اصحاب الكهف, ')—a group of young men who, according to Byzantine and Islamic sources, fled the religious persecution of Roman emperor Decius. Legend has it that these men hid in a cave around 250 AD, emerging miraculously about 200 or 300 years later. Considerable debate remains concerning the exact location of this cave; various locations in Turkey including Afşin, Tarsus, and Mount Pion been suggested in addition to the ''al-Rajib'' site.
