Al Nicholson
Allan Douglas Nicholson (April 26, 1936 – December 9, 1978) was a Canadian ice hockey left winger. Born in Estevan, Saskatchewan, he played in 19 games for the Boston Bruins during the 1955–56 and 1956–57 seasons and recorded one assist. Left Wing (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is a Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. Open to North American-born players 20 years of age or younger, the SJHL's 12 teams play in three divisions: the Olympic Buildings, Sherwood and Viterra Divisions. Vancouver Canucks (WHL)
The Vancouver Canucks were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the Pacific Coast Hockey League and the Western Hockey League, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Inaugurated in 1945 with the PCHL, they became a WHL team with the merger of the PCHL with the Western Canada Senior Hockey League in 1952. The Canucks played 25 seasons in the WHL between 1945 and 1970. In 1970 they were replaced by a new Canucks team of the same name, and joined the National Hockey League along with fellow expansion team, the Buffalo Sabres. 1958–59 WHL Season
The 1958–59 WHL season was the seventh season of the Western Hockey League. The Seattle Totems were the President's Cup champions as they beat the Calgary Stampeders in four games in the final series. The Spokane Spokes joined as an expansion club. Initially named the "Flyers" they were forced to modify their name after complaints from the Edmonton Flyers, who cited seniority. The Seattle franchise also changed names, going from the "Americans" to the "Totems". The teams played an unbalanced schedule: the Cost Division teams played 70 games each, while the Prairie Division teams had 64 each. Springfield Indians
The Springfield Indians were a minor professional ice hockey franchise, originally based in West Springfield, Massachusetts and later Springfield, Massachusetts. The Indians were founding members of the American Hockey League. They were in existence for a total of 60 seasons from 1926 to 1994, with three interruptions. The Indians had two brief hiatuses from 1933 to 1935, and from 1942 to 1946. The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary Minor league#Ice hockey, developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL).
