Al Loeb
Albert Lorch Loeb (March 11, 1890 – October 13, 1987) was a standout college football player for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team, where he was nicknamed "The Yiddish Wildcat". Georgia Tech Loeb was a prominent center for John Heisman's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football teams. Teammates of Loeb's at Tech would include H. W. Patterson and later Hall of Fame coach William Alexander. Loeb is a member of the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame, inducted in 1959. 1912 One source claims Loeb "is best remembered for the 1912 Tech-Alabama game." Hargrove Van De Graaff
Coleman Hargrove Van de Graaff (September 7, 1893 – January 2, 1938) was a college football player. He was an advocate for an airport in Tuscaloosa. Early years Hargrove was born on September 7, 1893 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Circuit Judge Adrian Sebastain Van de Graaff Sr. and Minnie Cherokee Jemison Van de Graaff. He helped organize sports at Tuscaloosa High School with football, baseball, and track. College athletics Hargrove was an All-Southern end for the Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama. His brothers Adrian and William also played for Alabama. William, known as "Bully," was Alabama's first All-American. Hargrove was the smallest of the three. Adrian Van De Graaff
Adrian Van Vinceler Van de Graaff (September 6, 1891 – March 14, 1936) was an American college football player and coach. He played halfback for the Alabama Crimson Tide football of the University of Alabama. After football, he practiced law. Early years Adrian was born on September 6, 1891, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Adrian Sebastian "Bass" Van de Graaff and Minnie Cherokee Jemison. Adrian, Sr. was a circuit judge who had been a sub on Yale's football team of 1880. Adrian attended Tuscaloosa High School. University of Alabama Following in his father's footsteps, Adrian joined the Alabama football team, becoming a prominent member of its 1911 and 1912 teams. 1912 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team
The 1912 Alabama Crimson Tide football team (variously "Alabama", "UA", or "Bama") represented the University of Alabama in the 1912 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. It was the Crimson Tide's 20th overall and 17th season as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). The team was led by head coach D. V. Graves, in his second year, and played their home games at the University of Alabama Quad in Tuscaloosa and at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, US. They finished the season with a record of five wins, three losses, and one tie (5–3–1 overall, 3–3–1 in the SIAA). Before the season Farley Moody was captain of the 1912 team. Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. The importance of centers for a football team has increased, due to the re-emergence of 3–4 defenses. According to Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, "you need to have somebody who can neutralize that nose tackle. If you don't, everything can get screwed up. William Alexander (coach)
William Anderson Alexander (June 6, 1889 – April 23, 1950) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1920 to 1944, compiling a record of 134–95–15. Alexander has the second most victories of any Tech football coach. Alexander's 1928 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been recognized as national champions by a number of selectors. Alexander was the first college football coach to place his teams in the four major post-season bowl games of the time: Sugar, Cotton, Orange and Rose. His teams won three of the four bowls. The 1929 Rose Bowl win, which earned his team the national championship, is the most celebrated because of the wrong-way run by California's Roy Riegels. Alexander was also the head basketball coach at Georgia Tech for four seasons from 1919 to 1924. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1951.
