Al Hedman
Alfanso "Al" Hedman (born 22 November 1953 from Jamaica) is a former Jamaican–born English professional darts player, who played in Professional Darts Corporation events. Career Hedman won the 1995 BDO British Open, defeating Andy Fordham of England. He qualified for the 1995 BDO European Darts Masters, but lost at the Last 24 stage to Bob Taylor of Scotland. Hedman lost to Paul Whitworth of England in the 1996 BDO Gold Cup. Hedman qualified for the 2003 PDC World Darts Championship, but lost at the Last-40 stage to Bob Anderson of England. He played in three stages of the UK Open, but losing at the Last-64 stage to Shayne Burgess of England. Hedman left the PDC in 2005. BDO Gold Cup
The BDO Gold Cup began in 1978 and was held in Stoke. It was broadcast on the BBC until 1982, with the 1983 tournament blacked out due to a technicians' strike. ITV took over from 1984-1988, and BSB/BSkyB's The Sports Channel/Sky Sports covered the event from 1990-92. It was then broadcast in 2008 on Setanta Sports in the UK, after a brief stint on the short-lived channel Wire TV (1994-95). Deta Hedman
Deta Hedman (born 14 November 1959) is an English darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Biography Hedman was born in Jamaica in 1959. Her parents emigrated to the United Kingdom in the early 1960s, leaving Hedman and her siblings in the care of relatives in Jamaica. She spent her childhood with her aunt in Castleton in a shack without running water or electricity, going to school from Monday to Thursday and working on the farm on Fridays. Her parents eventually settled in Witham, Essex and over time, brought their children to the UK, with Hedman joining them in January 1973. She started playing darts with her older brother after babysitting for him and then at the local pub in Witham and further afield in Essex. When she was 25, she joined a super league. She was selected for the county, and in 1987 she began playing in British Darts Organisation events. Shayne Burgess
Shayne Burgess (born 1 June 1964) is an English former professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments. He is known for his unorthodox throwing action, where he draws the point of the dart up close to his eyeball before releasing. Career Early career Burgess reached the quarter finals of the British Open in 1992 and the quarter-finals of the Winmau World Masters in 1993. Burgess switched to the PDC (then known as the WDC), and reached the semi finals of the 1994 World Matchplay in his first televised event in the WDC. Peak years He reached the semi finals of the 1999 PDC World Championship, when he lost a 4-5 in to Peter Manley, and the quarter finals of the 2000 PDC World Championship. UK Open
The Cazoo UK Open is a ranking major darts tournament held annually at the Butlins Minehead Resort by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in England. Often referred to as the "FA Cup of darts", the UK Open replicates the abolition of seedings, elimination play, and fixtures determined via open draw. One-hundred-and-sixty players compete in the multi-board event over eight-stages before the PDC’s Top 32 enter the tournament in the fourth round. 2003 PDC World Darts Championship
The 2003 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship was the tenth World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation since it split from the British Darts Organisation in 1993. The tournament took place between 27 December 2002 and 4 January 2003 at the Circus Tavern, Purfleet, England. Ladbrokes (who sponsored the 1996 event with their Vernon's brand) and took over sponsorship of the event from Skol. The field at the televised stages expanded for the first time since 1999. An extra qualifying round was introduced increasing the total number of players from 32 to 40. John Part defeated the defending champion and number one seed, Phil Taylor (darts player), Phil Taylor, in the final to end two incredible runs by Taylor – eight successive World titles, and 44 successive victories at the Circus Tavern.
