Al Gurdon
Al Gurdon is a British broadcast lighting designer and consultant. He specialises in large scale televised music shows and events including the MTV Awards, the Eurovision Song Contest and the Super Bowl half-time concerts. Gurdon was the Broadcast Lighting Designer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics. Gurdon has a BA Hons in Film and Photography from the Polytechnic of Central London, now known as the University of Westminster. He has had a long-standing working relationship with television director Hamish Hamilton. Awards and nominations Al Gurdon was awarded an Emmy at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards 2014. Patrick Woodroffe (lighting Designer)
Patrick Woodroffe (born 11 June 1954) is a lighting designer and director working in the worlds of music, dance, fashion, art and architecture. Career Woodroffe began his career in lighting in 1973 and since then has lit and directed productions for many artists including ABBA, AC/DC, Adele, Bob Dylan, The Police, Take That, Peter Gabriel, Simon and Garfunkel, Genesis, Rammstein, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, The Eagles, Lady Gaga, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, Pet Shop Boys, Michael Jackson, Elton John and Paul McCartney at the White House (3 June 2010). Woodroffe has worked with The Rolling Stones as their lighting designer and creative director since 1982. Helpmann Award Winners
Sir Robert Murray Helpmann CBE ( Helpman, 9 April 1909 – 28 September 1986) was an Australian ballet dancer, actor, director, and choreographer. After early work in Australia he moved to Britain in 1932, where he joined the Vic-Wells Ballet (now The Royal Ballet) under its creator, Ninette de Valois. He became one of the company's leading men, partnering Alicia Markova and later Margot Fonteyn. When Frederick Ashton, the company's chief choreographer, was called up for military service in the Second World War Helpmann took over from him while continuing as a principal dancer. Lighting Designers
In theatre, a lighting designer (or LD) works with the director, choreographer, set designer, costume designer, and sound designer to create the lighting, atmosphere, and time of day for the production in response to the text while keeping in mind issues of visibility, safety, and cost. The LD also works closely with the stage manager or show control programming, if show control systems are used in that production. Super Bowl XLVI was an American football game between the National Football Conference (NFC) champion New York Giants and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion New England Patriots to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 2011 season. The opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics took place on the evening of Friday 27 July 2012 in the Olympic Stadium, London, during which the Games were formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II. MTV Awards
The MTV Video Music Awards (commonly abbreviated as the VMAs) is an award show presented by the cable channel MTV to honour the best in the music video medium.
