Al Barry
Allan Barry (born December 24, 1930) is a former American football offensive guard in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants. He also played in the American Football League for the Los Angeles Chargers. He played college football at the University of Southern California. Early years Barry attended Beverly Hills High School, before accepting a scholarship from the University of Southern California. He was a two-way player, on offense, he was a tackle until his senior season when he was moved to guard. He contributed to the team winning the 1953 Rose Bowl. He also practiced the shot put. Professional career Green Bay Packers Barry was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 30th round (355th overall) of the 1953 NFL Draft with a future draft pick, which allowed the team to draft him before his college eligibility was over. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. 1960 American Football League Championship Game
The 1960 American Football League Championship Game was the first AFL title game, played on New Year's Day 1961 at Jeppesen Stadium in Houston, Texas. With New Year's on Sunday, the major college bowl games were played on Monday, January 2. This was the first time that a major professional football league's playoff game was played in January rather than December. Hugh Lynn Pitts (April 8, 1934 – April 14, 2017) was an American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams. He also was a member of the Houston Oilers in the American Football League (AFL). He played college football at Texas Christian University. Early years Pitts attended Woodville High School. He accepted a football scholarship from Texas Christian University. As a junior, he became a starter at center, receiving Central Press Association second-team All-American honors. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. The 1959 NFL Championship Game was the 27th NFL championship game, played on December 27 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. It was a rematch of the 1958 championship game that went into overtime. The defending champion Baltimore Colts (9–3) again won the Western Conference, while the New York Giants (10–2) repeated as Eastern Conference champions. The Colts were favored to repeat as champions by 3½ points. This game also went down to the last quarter, but the Colts did not need any heroics in overtime.
