Riyad Al-Turk
Riad al-Turk ( ar, رياض الترك, born 1930 in Homs) is a prominent Syrian opposition leader, former political prisoner for about 20 years in Syria, and supporter of democracy, who has been called "the Old Man of Syrian opposition." He was secretary general of the Syrian Communist Party (Political Bureau) since its foundation in 1973 until 2005. Overview Al-Turk joined the Syrian Communist Party while a student. He was imprisoned for the first time in 1952 shortly after finishing law school for opposing the military government that came to power in a coup. He was held for five months and tortured but never tried in court. He later wrote articles for the party newspaper, ''Al-Nour'', and became a leading party ideologue. He was imprisoned again in 1958 under Nasser for opposing the merger of Syria and Egypt in the United Arab Republic and held for sixteen months. Again he was tortured but not tried for any crime. Ismail Fatah Al Turk
Ismail Fatah Al-Turk ("Ismail Fatah") (1934 or 1938–2004) was an Iraqi painter and sculptor born in Basra, Iraq, noted for his abstract art, monumental sculpture and public works and as part of the Baghdad Modern Art Group, which fostered a sense of national identity. His monument, '' al-Shaeed'' is the most iconic public monument in Baghdad. Life and career Al-Turk was born in Basra in 1934. He graduated from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts in 1956 with a Bachelor of Painting and in 1958 with a Bachelor of Sculpture. and received a Master's degree in fine art from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma in 1962. Hala Al Turk ( ar, حلا الترك; born May 15, 2002) is a Jordanian-Syrian Bahraini singer. She become known for being a contestant on '' Arabs Got Talent'' in 2011. Ishaq Al-Turk
Ishaq al-Turk was an Iranian rebel who started a rebellion in Khorasan against the Abbasid Caliphate, after the murder of Abu Muslim. Ishaq was a Zoroastrian, or a Khurramite. After Abu Muslim's murder at the orders of al-Mansur, Ishaq fled to Transoxania, and declared a revolt on al-Mansur. He claimed that Abu Muslim was a prophet who was sent to reform Zoroastrianism, thus starting one of many movements claiming prophethood or divinity for Abu Muslim. He also claimed descent from Yahya ibn Zayd ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib. The Abbasid ruler of Khorasan had him captured and executed. His group continued to be known as al-Muslimiyya ''(followers of Abu Muslim Khorasani),'' and constitute the fundamental ideology of the sect well known as Bābak’iyyāh in the future. Omar El Turk
Omar El Turk (in Arabic عمر الترك) (born September 30, 1981 in Beirut, Lebanon) is a retired Lebanese Canadian basketball player and member of the Lebanon national basketball team. Immigrating to Canada, he played with Montreal, Quebec's Dawson College Blues. A shooting guard, he signed with Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League and has competed with the team for the last five seasons, helping the team become one of the strongest Lebanese sides. El Turk is also a long-time member of the Lebanon national basketball team.
