Al-Rashid Mosque
The Al-Rashid Mosque was the first mosque built in Canada. It was constructed in Edmonton, Alberta. History Al-Rashid Mosque was expected to be the first mosque in North America but was built in 1938 just after the Mother Mosque of America in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and several years after the 1929 mosque built in Ross, North Dakota. At the time, there were about 700 Muslims in Canada. Hilwie Hamdon was the first woman to talk to Edmonton Mayor John Fry about purchasing land to construct the mosque. She, along with friends, collected fund from Jews, Christians and Muslims to construct the mosque. The mosque was built by Ukrainian-Canadian contractor Mike Drewoth in a style resembling the Eastern Christian (Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox) immigrant churches and opened on December 12, 1938. Fort Edmonton Park
Fort Edmonton Park (sometimes referred to as "Fort Edmonton") is an attraction in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Named for the first enduring European post in the area of modern-day Edmonton, the park is the largest living history museum in Canada by area. It includes both original and rebuilt historical structures representing the history of Edmonton (including that of Indigenous peoples in Canada, Indigenous Peoples), and is staffed during the summer by historical reenactment, costumed historical interpreters. History The history of Fort Edmonton Park's conception goes back as far as 1912 where the Women's Canadian Club proposed that they keep and preserve Fort Edmonton, which was still standing since 1830 just south of the Alberta Legislature Building. Muhammad Abdul Aleem Siddiqi (3 April 1892 – 22 August 1954) was an Islamic scholar, spiritual master, author and preacher from Pakistan. He was a student of Imam of Ahlus Sunnah Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Muhaddith barelwi Rahimahullah. He was leader of the All Malaya Muslim Missionary Society, Singapore (now known as Jamiyah Singapore). Life Siddiqi was born on 3 April 1892 in Meerut and was descendant of Abu Bakr. It is said that he had memorized the Quran by the age of four, and obtained a degree in Islamic theology at the age of 16. He learned the natural and social sciences. Missionary activities Siddique traveled extensively overseas for 40 years to preach and propagate Islam. He advocated inter-religious harmony and spread message of peace and came to seem by some people as a Roving Ambassador of Peace. In 1930 he went to Singapore as a missionary.
