Al-Qādisiyyah (historical City)
Al-Qādisiyyah ( ar, القادسية) is a historical city in southern Mesopotamia, southwest of Hillah, al-Hillah and Kufa, al-Kūfah in Iraq. It is most famous as the site of the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah, Battle of al-Qādisiyyah in c. 636, which saw a force of Arabs, Arab-Muslims, Muslim invaders defeat a larger army sent by the Sasanian Empire. Commercial importance Prior to the Islamic conquest of Persia, Arab conquest, al-Qādisiyyah was but a small village on the western side of the Euphrates River, near an old castle at `Udhayb, and was possibly part of the Wall of the Arabs (Iranica, al-Qadisiyyah). However, during the centuries that followed, al-Qādisiyyah grew in size and importance and was a noted stop along very important highways of commerce that led to Baghdād and Makkah (see Alavi, 100). Al-Qādisiyyah Governorate
Al-Qadisiyah Governorate ( ar, القادسية, translit=Al Qādisiyah), also known as Al-Diwaniyah Governorate ( ar, ٱلدِّيوَانِيَّة ''ad-Dīwānīyah''), is one of the governorates of Iraq. It is in the center-south of the country. The estimated population of the province is about a million and a half million people, according to the census of 2014. Its capital is Al Diwaniyah. Before 1976, it was part of the ad-Diwāniyah Governorate, along with al-Muthannā and Najaf. The province is named after the historical city of Al-Qādisiyah, the site of the Battle of al-Qādisiyah, where in 636 CE the Islamic Rashidun forces defeated the forces of the Sassanid Empire. The governorate is predominantly Shia Arab. It includes the Mesopotamian marsh of Hor Aldelmj. Lake Qadisiyah
A man-made reservoir in Al-Anbar, Iraq, Lake Qadisiyah ( ar, بحيرة القادسية) sits on the north side of the Haditha Dam. Qadisiyah was formed by the damming of the Euphrates river above Haditha, Iraq. It has of shoreline and provides irrigation water for nearby cultivated fields. On December 3, 2006, it was the site of an emergency landing by an American CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing that resulted in the drowning deaths of four out of its sixteen passengers. Al-Qadsiah Football Club ( ar, نادي القادسية) is a Saudi Arabian professional football club that competes in the Saudi First Division League. They are based in Khobar and their home ground is the Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium. History Al-Qadsiah have been a regular and uninterrupted participant in the Saudi Premier League since its inception in the inaugural 1976-77 season, their best ever top-flight season came in the 1980–81 season when they finished in 3rd place. The Battle of al-Qadisiyyah ( ar, مَعْرَكَة ٱلْقَادِسِيَّة, Maʿrakah al-Qādisīyah; fa, نبرد قادسیه, Nabard-e Qâdisiyeh) was an armed conflict which took place in 636 CE between the Rashidun Caliphate and the Sasanian Empire. It occurred during the early Muslim conquests and marked a decisive victory for the Rashidun army during the Muslim conquest of Persia. The Rashidun offensive at Qadisiyyah is believed to have taken place in November of 636. The leader of the Sasanian army at the time, Rostam Farrokhzad, died in uncertain circumstances during the battle. The subsequent collapse of the Sasanian army in the region led to a decisive Arab victory over the Iranians, and the incorporation of territory that comprises modern-day Iraq into the Rashidun Caliphate.D. The University of Al-Qadisiyah ( ar, جامعة القادسية) is an Iraqi university established in 1987 in Al Diwaniyah, Al-Qādisiyyah Governorate, Qadisiyyah Province, Iraq. History The University of Al-Qadisiyah was established on the 23rd of December, 1987 through a resolution (no. 159) passed by the Revolutionary Command Council (Iraq), Revolutionary Command Council of the Saddam era. The resolution ordered the establishment of four universities; the University of Al-Qadisiyah, the University of Kufa, the University of Tikrit, and the University of Anbar. Originally, the University of Al-Qadisiyah began with two colleges; the College of Education and the College of Business and Administration.
