Aktiv Skøyteklubb ("Active Skating Club"), formerly Arbeidernes Skøyteklubb (Workers' Skating Club") is a Norway, Norwegian speed skating club from Oslo. The club was founded as Arbeidernes Cykleklubb in 1924, and adopted Arbeidernes Skøyteklubb in 1927. It was a member of the Arbeidernes Idrettsforbund, Workers' Sports Federation. After the discontinuation of the Workers' Sports Federation, it retained its worker name until 1978. It then went by ASK; from 2001 Aktiv Skøyteklubb. Its home track is Valle Hovin, formerly Jordal stadion. Kai Arne Engelstad (born 21 December 1954, in Oslo) is a former Speed skating, speed skater from Norway. Engelstad specialised on the sprint, with his strongest distance being the 1,000 m. He had his best year in 1984 when he became Norwegian Sprint Champion for the third time, won bronze on the 1,000 m at the 1984 Winter Olympics, Winter Olympics of Sarajevo, and won another bronze medal when he finished third at the World Sprint Speed Skating Championships, World Sprint Championships in Trondheim. Geir Karlstad (born 7 July 1963) is a Norwegian former speed skater and national team speed skating coach. Biography Although best at the longest distances (the 5,000 m and the 10,000 m), Geir Karlstad became Junior World Allround Champion in 1982 and, as a senior, won bronze in both the World and European Allround Championships in 1989. Among the dominating speed skaters in the 1980s, Karlstad competed at the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics, winning no medals. At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, he won the gold medal on the 5,000 m and the bronze on the 10,000 m while skating for Lillestrøm SK. Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in travelling a certain distance on skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating.
