Akore
Akore ( kk, Ақөре), known as "Kalininskoye" until 1993, is a settlement in Bukhar-Zhyrau District, Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan. It is the administrative center and only settlement of the Akore rural district (KATO code - 35403310). Population: History The settlement named ''Bogorodskoye'' was founded in 1908. In 1925 it was renamed ''Kalininskoye''. Geography Akore lies in the Kazakh Uplands about to the northeast of the district capital Botakara. Lake Saumalkol lies to the south. Saumalkol, Bukhar-Zhyrau District
Saumalkol ( kk, Саумалкөл; russian: Саумалколь), also known as "Ashchykol" ( kk, Ащыкөл), is a permanent lake in Bukhar-Zhyrau District, Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan. The nearest inhabited place is Akore, former Kalininskoye, located to the north. The now uninhabited hamlet of Rubinskoye lies in ruins near the eastern lakeshore. Geography Saumalkol is an endorheic lake in the Nura basin, Kazakh Uplands. It lies roughly southwest of lake Rudnichnoye. The lake is relatively deep and has water all year round. Karaganda Region
Karaganda Region ( kk, Qarağandy oblysy; russian: Карагандинская область, translit=Karagandinskaja oblast′), also spelled Qaraghandy Region, is a region of Kazakhstan. Its capital is Karaganda. On 17 March 2022 it was announced that Karaganda would be divided, with the formation of the Ulytau Region. This officially came into force on 8 June 2022. History The region was the site of intense coal mining during the days of the Soviet Union and also the site of several Gulag forced labor camps. Following World War II, Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union, had many ethnic Germans deported to the area. There have been constant border changes within the region's history. Botakara ( kk, Ботақара), known as "Ulyanovsk" until 1997, is a settlement in Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan.
