''Akeldama'' is the debut studio album by technical death metal band The Faceless. It was released on November 14, 2006 through Sumerian Records. The title of the album is Aramaic for "Field of Blood". It was produced by Michael Keene. Sound and genre ''Akeldama'' is the only album by The Faceless to incorporate a deathcore sound and style. Breakdowns and metalcore riffs are frequent on the release. The Faceless
The Faceless are an American technical death metal band from the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles. They released their debut album, ''Akeldama'', in November 2006, and a follow-up, '' Planetary Duality'', in November 2008. The band's third album, '' Autotheism'', was released on August 14, 2012. On December 1, 2017, the band released their fourth album, ''In Becoming a Ghost''. History The band was formed in Encino by guitarist Michael Keene and bassist Brandon Giffin in 2004. In the winter of 2005, the band began work on a four-song extended-play album which would become ''Akeldama''. After recording the drum tracks, drummer Brett Batdorf left the band. After a break in the recording process, the band decided to make the EP into a full–length record and recruited several drummers to finish the drum tracks for the remaining songs. Technical death metal (also referred to as tech-death) is a musical subgenre of death metal that began and developed in the early- to mid-1990s, with particular focus on challenging, demanding instrumental skill and complex songwriting. Technical experimentation in death metal began in the late 1980s and early 1990s by four bands that are often grouped together as "technical death metal's Big Four" – Death, Pestilence, Atheist, and Cynic – as well as Nocturnus; all but Pestilence being part of the Florida death metal scene. Deathcore
Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. The genre consists of death metal guitar riffs, blast beats, and metalcore breakdowns. While there are some precursors to the concept of death metal fused with metalcore/hardcore elements seen in the 1990s, deathcore itself emerged in the early 2000s and gained prominence beginning in the mid-2000s within the southwestern United States, especially Arizona and inland southern California (mostly the Coachella Valley), which are home to many notable bands and various festivals. It is a concept album with the lyrics following a science fiction theme of an extraterrestrial and extra-dimensional race controlling the world and is loosely inspired by the book ''The Children of the Matrix'' by David Icke. Navene Koperweis
Navene Koperweis (born May 31, 1985) is an American drummer, best known as the former drummer of Animosity, Hoods and Animals as Leaders. He currently plays for Entheos, and serves as session drummer for Job for a Cowboy and also Machine Head. Koperweis started drumming when he was eleven years old. He has played for The Faceless, and runs his technical death metal project, Fleshwrought, where he plays all instruments. He is also a dubstep/electronica producer, and is currently working on his debut electronic album.
