Akari Chargers
The Akari Chargers is a professional women's volleyball team in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). The team is owned by Akari Lighting & Technology Corporation. History The Akari Chargers was created by the Akari Lighting & Technology Corporation, announcing its official entry into the Premier Volleyball League as the 10th professional club team. Akari's has been a longtime sponsor of the Adamson Lady Falcons collegiate volleyball team which clinched the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference. Before the start of the 2022 reinforced conference, Akari announced that it tapped Brazilian head coach of the Philippines women's national volleyball team, Jorge Edson to be its head coach. The team debuted in the 2022 Reinforced Conference. Jorge Edson
Jorge Edson Souza de Brito (born October 13, 1966), known as Jorge Edson, is a retired volleyball player from Brazil. He was a member of the Brazil men's national volleyball team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain by defeating the Netherlands (3-0) in the final. He played as a middle blocker. He was born in Porto Alegre. Coaching career Edson later became a coach. From 2002 onwards, Edson led top-tier Brazilian clubs and clinched podium finishes for sides from Turkey and Japan. Aleona Denise "Dindin" Antonio Santiago-Manabat (born September 26, 1993) is a Filipino volleyball player. She played in the UAAP during her collegiate years for the NU Lady Bulldogs and started her professional career in the Philippine Super Liga as the first overall pick in the 2014 season for Petron Blaze Spikers. Personal life Santiago was born on September 26, 1993, the third of five siblings. Her brother (Axel Leonard Santiago, a former member of the men's volleyball varsity team of National University "NU Bulldogs") is currently working in PLDT and her older sister is working in Dubai, while she and her sister, Alyja Daphne "Jaja" Santiago, are both playing for various women's volleyball club teams in different leagues. Prisilla Altagracia Rivera Brens (born December 29, 1984, in Santo Domingo) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic. Career 2000-2001 Rivera debuted in 2000 at the Nacional District Superior Tournament with Los Prados, being elected Rookie of the Year. She played with the Girls National Team at the 2001 FIVB U18 World Championship in Pula, Croatia, helping her team to reach the 8th place. That year, she also played with the senior team at the 2001 NORCECA Championship winning with her team the bronze medal. 2003-2004 With her National Team, she won the gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. Geneveve Casugod (born January 12, 1991) is a Filipino professional volleyball player who currently plays for the Cignal HD Spikers on the Premier Volleyball League. She was a former member of the collegiate varsity volleyball team of the Far Eastern University in its indoor games. She is a former member of the Philippines women's national volleyball team. Career Casugod debuted in the 76th Season of UAAP Women's Volleyball with the FEU Tamaraws. She has been a part of the team for 2 years after she decided to leave due to her pregnancy. Christine Joy Soyud
Christine Joy Soyud (born December 27, 1995) is a Filipino volleyball player. She is currently playing as an Opposite Hitter for the Akari Chargers in the PVL. Career UAAP Soyud made her first game appearance with De La Salle Lady Spikers in the UAAP Season 78. Her team won the title after beating Ateneo in Game 3 of the best of three series. In 2017, she transferred in Adamson University and played for the Adamson Lady Falcons. She didn't play for the Adamson Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 79 because she had to serve a one-year residency imposed by the University Athletic Association of the Philippines for transferring from a UAAP school (La Salle) to another (Adamson). Faith Janine Shirley Mallonga Nisperos (born January 2, 2000) is a Filipino volleyball player who plays for the Akari Chargers of the Premier Volleyball League. Early life and education Faith was raised in Davao City, Davao del Sur to parents Ferdie and Sheila Nisperos. Faith Nisperos went to Ateneo de Davao University for her elementary education but transferred to Nazareth School of National University (NU) in seventh grade. She completed her senior high school studies in the same school. She would go back to the Ateneo school system, entering the Ateneo de Manila University for her collegiate studies. Shiela Marie "Bang" Pineda (born January 21, 1991) is a Filipino volleyball athlete. Career Pineda played for Adamson Lady Falcons during the UAAP Season 75 being named Best Server and the UAAP Season 76. She then played for Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns in the 11th Season Open Conference being named Best Digger and 12th Season Reinforced Open Conference before joining Petron Tri-Activ Spikers. In the 2017 season of the Philippine SuperLiga, Pineda and teammate Frances Molina of Petron XCS won the bronze medal in the Beach Challenge Cup.
