Ajmal Sultanpuri
Ajmal Sultanpuri (1923 – 29 January 2020) was an Indian poet in Urdu language. He was a native of Harakhpur in Sultanpur District, Uttar Pradesh. In 1967, He was beaten by few village men because he was trying to protest against social discrimination. After that, he moved to Sultanpur and never went back to Harakhpur. Sultanpur District
Sultanpur district is a district in the Awadh region of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This district is a part of Faizabad division (officially ''Ayodhya division'') in Uttar Pradesh. The administrative headquarters of the district is Sultanpur city. The total area of Sultanpur district is 2672.89 Sq. km. As of 2011, Sultanpur district has a population of 2,249,036 people. Uttar Pradesh (; , 'Northern Province') is a state in northern India. ''Mushaira'' ( ur, , Mušā'ira) is a poetic symposium. It is an event (called ''mehfil'', Mushairi) where poets gather to perform their works. A mushaira is part of the Culture of North India, Pakistan and the Deccan, particularly among the Hyderabadi Muslims, and it regarded as a forum for free self-expression.
