Ajaccio AOC
Ajaccio is an ''Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée'' (AOC) for wine situated in Corsica, France as a part of the Corsica wine region. Ajaccio was earlier known as Coteaux d'Ajaccio and covers a vast stretch of land that looks down over the Mediterranean Sea. The wine-growing tradition in this area, one of the oldest traditions on the island, has grown up around carefully maintained estates and plots of land planted with Sciaccarello vines. Often seen as the jewel in the crown of Corsican grape varieties, Sciaccarellu grapes tend to give both red and rosé wines a distinctive flavour and elegance. . Ajaccio
Ajaccio (, , ; French: ; it, Aiaccio or ; co, Aiacciu , locally: ; la, Adiacium) is a French commune, prefecture of the department of Corse-du-Sud, and head office of the ''Collectivité territoriale de Corse'' (capital city of Corsica). It is also the largest settlement on the island. Ajaccio is located on the west coast of the island of Corsica, southeast of Marseille. The original city went into decline in the Middle Ages, but began to prosper again after the Genoese built a citadel in 1492, to the south of the earlier settlement. After the Corsican Republic was declared in 1755, the Genoese continued to hold several citadels, including Ajaccio, until the French took control of the island. Cargèse
Cargèse (; or ; it, Cargese ; el, Καργκέζε, Kargkéze) is a village and ''commune'' in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the west coast of the island of Corsica, 27 km north of Ajaccio. , the commune had a population of 1,325. Bastelicaccia (; Corsican: ''A Bastirgaccia'') is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Bastilcacci'' or ''Bastelicacciais'' and ''Bastelicacciaises''. Geography Bastelicaccia is to the east of the centre of Ajaccio and immediately to the east of Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport. It was created in 1865 between the rivers Gravona and Prunelli. The highest point in the commune is Monte Aragnasco. Access to the commune is by Route nationale N196 which passes through the south of the commune from the airport in the west to Cauro in the east. Arro
Arro (; co, Arru, link=no) is a commune in the French department of Corse-du-Sud, collectivity and island of Corsica. Geography Arro is located some 25 km north by north-east of Ajaccio and 10 km south of Vico. Access to the commune is by the D1 road from Ambiegna in the south passing through the heart of the commune and continuing north to Arbori. The D125 branches off the D1 in the south of the commune and goes north-east through the village then by a tortuous route to join the D4 south of Azzana. The commune is rugged and heavily forested. Arbori
Arbori (; co, Arburi) is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Arborais'' or ''Arboraises'' Geography Arbori is located in a direct line some 12 km south of Marignana and 20 km north of Sarrola-Carcopino. Access to the commune is by the road D1 which runs by a tortuous route north from Sari-d'Orcino through the commune to the village then continues north to Vico. Apart from the village there are also the hamlets of Mercolaccia and Parapoghiu. The commune is remote, mountainous, and heavily forested although with a small patch of farmland in the centre. The eastern and southern border is formed by the river Liamone, which flows south and then west, from its confluence with the Cruzini. Appietto
Appietto (; co, Appiettu) is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica. Geography Appietto is located 17 km from Ajaccio, and stretches from the Gozzi mount to the coastline of the Gulf of Lava. This historic village culminates at 480 meters, while the rest of the town consists of several ancient villages (Volpaja, Lava Listincone, Picchio, Piscia Rossa) and recent subdivisions (Monté Nebbio, Chiosu Vecchiu, Vanghone, Filletta).
